Diezel Herbert MKI, MKII, Bogner Uber Rev 2, or Twin Jet?

For me, the Twin Jet is my least favorite of the bunch. I'm a big Diezel and Bogner fan, too. So it's a tough choice. The Herbert is tighter than the Uber. But of the Diezels, the Herbert is my least favorite. I think I'd go with the Uber Rev 2 (Rev blue?). The presence control on that amp is key. Crank it while lowering the treble a bit for a really sweet sound.

Do you think it's mostly due to the KT88 power section? I thought Bogner said the pre-amp circuits on the the dirty channel were the same?
I swapped to 6550s in my TJ along with some nice preamp glass and it slays. Does everything with great tone, great saturation, and tremendous thump. Are the KT88s bad? No. But I do believe they compromise what people think they'll be getting when looking at it from an Uberschall versus TwinJet perspective.

Here's the notes from the website about the TJ:

The super high gain channel is identical to the standard Uberschall with the exception that the presence control is now in the channel circuit itself, rather than the power amp. The Uberscall's power amp presence control is the same as the Twin Jet's master presence control which affects both channels on the Twin Jet. With these changes the Twin Jet's super high gain channel's presence control becomes an additional tone and feel shaping control.

What brand 6550's and 12's did you end up with?

I don't know the Herberts as well as many other forum members here do, but I have to say what Black Sabbath has mentioned above, has been mentioned before - the Mk1 is tonally preferred over the Mk2 - but this is only within the Herbert circle. I can't say it first hand, but it has been said numerous times before (and hey, maybe the price is softer on a used Mk1 over a newer Mk2 :dunno: )

Herbert now.
TJ/Uberschall later.
No problems
I've have owned my “original” Diezel Herbert, MK0 or whatever (named after Peter's Father) since In 2005 (~9 years), and I will never look back to any other brilliant guitar amplifier. And this is for any applications – too old school heavy metal too the most modern heavy metal you can think of.

Although IMO good “quality” heavy metal pretty much died after 2002.

I'm not sure if the Einstein (named after Peter's doggie) has been mentioned here but you may want to look into this dawg as well. Another very fine amplifier from the depths of the mind from the man, Mr. Peter Diezel.

Herbert worship + Ventura hatred = King Crimson. Cool avatar pic, where ya been?

I've played the Einstein, and liked it quite well. I think I would dig the mid cut feature of the Herbie though.

I don't ever hate m'man... Ever.

Although I did think BS might be our blessed "Dave" in a different cloak, I don't think so. He speaks with a different authority, and personally, I think Sabbath is a bit of alright in my books

But ya, I suppose we'll see how this plays out.

Sir Ventura . . .

If you do a little research Mo, you will find no God given name given to a creature’s progeny from a Mother as "Dave".

However, you will be blessed to find that the only derivative would be the King of Israel, and that King would properly so be addressed as "David".

The path of the righteous Herbert man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil nay Sayers of the ecliptic Herbert.

And the supreme Herbert will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger to those who would attempt to poison and destroy the Herbert and his brothers and sisters. And you will know the name is Lord Herbert when he will lay his vengeance upon thee.

Summon the Herbert ~ Hail to the Herbert!

Could be due tot he tubes. I can't say for sure. But I've played a few TJs and I didn't like them. I did, however, own a Rev 2 Uber and liked it. But I do prefer Diezels a little more.

And whaddya know... It is David!! Former KC!! Jesus dude... I thought they didn't allow internet at your facility? How they treating you? How are the meds?

Nice to see you back. Now play nice and stay out of the OT subforum spin cycle. We'll keep it on the downlow that you're sneaking some public access time, so long as you don't start eating children and going all full'tard on us, m'kay?

I knew you'd be back

Never played a Herbert, but I am an unashamed Uber-phile. I think the Twin Jet is the most versatile iteration of them all, but the Rev 2 is the most organic and unique. Playing with the tubes is key, and adjusting with your ears instead of your eyes. That being said, they are definitely not "one trick ponies" and are far more versatile than people give them credit for. If you take the time to really get to know the amps, they will not let you down.

To the OP. What speaker cab or cabs do you have? Size, make and what they're loaded with ect.

Straight VHT D cab with stock P50Es, and Marshall 1960a JCM800 with stock 75's. Both 4x12

Got to go, out of those choices for you then, Uberschall Rev 2.

But if I had my druthers I'd go with a couple of Diezel made FL k100 loaded 412's and hit that Herbert up.

Out of those amps I'd buy the Mk 1 Herbie. Out of those amps I've only tried the Mk 1 Herbie! I'd buy the Herbie because I love mine and if I tried all the others then I'd have to do lots of head scratching and make decisions which I'm not very good at. ;)

Regardless, I love my Herbert. Currently running it through the German V30 FL 2x12. Kinda surprised me as I'm not a really "very metal" player so figured I'd probably go for a rear loaded from what I'd previously heard as I'm more "big meaty alt rock" person (at least in my head), but there's just something about the Herbie + Front loaded cab I really like.

i played my uber for a while today and i still love the amp but i dont like it as much as my herbert.
