I guess you ran the pedal just straight to the power amp of the VH4?
Makes me curious if a different power amp would make a big difference.

Not really. A pedal being amplified by the amp it's designed to mimic. I'd be disapointed if it didn't sound at least close. No surprise, it's designed (but not built) by Peter. But I won't lie, I'm biased, I generally dislike all things that try and mimic the real deal.

Not really. A pedal being amplified by the amp it's designed to mimic. I'd be disapointed if it didn't sound at least close. No surprise, it's designed (but not built) by Peter. But I won't lie, I'm biased, I generally dislike all things that try and mimic the real deal.

Well, the pedal is a PREAMP that's supposed to mimic the PREAMP of he head.
So comparing those while keeping everything else the same makes total sense actually.

But I do see that it's of course interesting to know how it sounds through other power amps etc, and those videos are gonna follow soon.

I agree with you. It is a good comparison. Preamp vs preamp. No one should expect it to sound like an actual VH4 played through say, a mesa power amp.

I'm just amazed with this pedal and the craze for it, especially around here. Half the guys on RT have a VH4 already.

I actually didn't have the talky bits before, but was asked to do it over and over again.
So now I often do them but also add a button to skip the talking, so it shouldn't be a problem either way.

-about the reamping...I try to do both cause both have their advantages.

When es about direct comparisons like this I prefer reamping for consistency's sake. It might not be as "interesting", but it's makes for a more accurate and representative comparison.

I still have a lot of videos where I just jam riffs etc (no reamping)...it's about 50/50 on my channel.

About the "real world" thing: it's actually extremely important for me to not use any "studio trickery" or post processing. All my stuff is just a 57 in front of a v30 without any EQ or so. Sometimes it's double tracked though, but in that case you can just mute one channel and have a single raw track on the other side.

Of course my channel is far from perfect (I'm actually mainly doing it as an archive for myself), but I try to incorporate whatever feedback I'm getting, but it's obviously not possible to please everyone.
I still appreciate constructive criticism like this!!

But yeah, all the issues that you guys addressed are actually either done on purpose or just valid for about half of my videos.
So yeah, whenever it's a "direct comparison" I tend to reamp, when it's more about "vibe" I tend to play (check the "thrashfest" video for example).
The talking I just started doing a short while ago, but I usually add a button to skip it.

hopefully not mentioned already, but have you put this pedal in front of a clean or clean crunchy platform with some clips? Fender, Vox, etc...

I have a pedalboard section that I load with AIAB pedals and this one might be cool to have it works with a fender or something a player might stumble into. Pretty cool when you can just toss a Friedman OD, a Plexi AIAB pedal, and maybe this one and you really have quite a set of capabilities. Add an echo, reverb and you are ready to go.

Also in the loop of several other amps (well, I've tried it already but haven't shot any clips of it yet).
But while it's still cool as an od pedal, i gotta say I definitely prefer it as a full blown preamp into fx return

Lasse, don't worry about it. Some guys like to hear themselves bitch. I like your videos, you mostly just play without a ton of adjustment. I could pass on the people that make 10 minute videos of themselves twisting the knobs.

I like that you EQ the amp before hand, and just give us a vid sample of the amp at it's best. Those of us that are all playing the same type of music are going to EQ nearly identical anyway.

I like your vids as well.... i just skip to the playing if I don't want the talking. I also prefer the consistency of reamping because that removes nuances of the player and variation in each take. Guys twisting knobs is ok too but in this case for what you are trying to do, I dig it. Looking forward to hearing it through a poweramp return of some other amps.

Probably my favorite of your vids. Both amps EQ'd at their best for metal. Herbert sounds awesome in this vid, and I'm partial to this setup because my old rig was a Herbert and UberTJ ran in stereo.
