I see you also put a ground wire from your bridge to a pot on the outside rather than drilling a hole. I did that to mine too. But gave in and finally drilled the guitar last year.

String ground wire?
Most guitars—I should say most Les Pauls—have a string ground. It's a wire that connects a bridge or tailpiece stud to one of the pot casings (ground). Usually through a hole that is drilled inside the guitar. It is done to eliminate hum/noise by grounding the player through the guitar and through the amp when the player touches the strings. The human body is a big source of noise/rf/hum. Most LPs come with this wire stock. But many in the late 70s and early 80's didn't for some reason.
