Anyone ever ran a VH4 into a Marshall 1960A 4x12? If so, how did it sound? I’ve tried in a Mesa Trad 4x12 and the Diezel RL and FL 4x12 cabs. Wondering how it would change sound compared to what I’ve already run it through.

With modern T75's? Not a big fan of those speakers, for any amp really. This is speaking more as a rock guy, I think the metalheads like the extra aggression those speakers exhibit.

I dig the VH4 with G12H speakers - they are bright and firm which seems to work well with the Diezel sound.

Nice, I hadn’t considered the G12H.

Yeah, I was thinking with the T75’s. It seems like when I’ve played through a 1960A it seemed brighter than some of the other cabs I’m used to. Which I thought would be a good thing for the darkness of the VH4. I do like more of a metal tone.

Give it a go. If you like to tinker, they mix well with V30's and K100's. Either cross-pattern or your favourites up top.

I run all my diezels in to Marshall BV cabs . So could . BV cab contains the original v30s
I’m intrigued…I haven’t researched cabs enough. So would this be brighter sounding than what the Mesa cab with V30’s offer? How about compared to the FL Diezel can with V30’s. Do you know how it would compare to both? I didn’t even realize there were different V30’s. So the originals have a different tone from what I’m reading online.

Very good to know! Thats all I’ve played it through…V30’s in Mesa trad cab and Diezel FL
I prefer the mesa V30 cabs to the Diezel FL cabs with the VH4. With the Herbert, I found the Diezel cab to be a better fit.

I have a FL Diezel Cab with their v30s . The Marshall BV just sounds bigger full and just more natural and very alive . Huge amd balanced. The Diezel cab has Chinese v30s . Still good just super super tight and not as full . I love both cabs

I think all diezels sound best with v30s.

I wouldn't be surprised if that's what they were tested on
That would make sense. It’s probably tuned for it. It seems like that’s what I’ve always seen them played through.

I would be interested to hear it played through a BV. Does it sound more open and less compressed? I think it sounds pretty dark and, for lack of a better word, muffled through the Mesa cab. Diesel cab definitely sounds brighter. When I’ve recorded through load box or mic’ed, it sounds good. Just more about the in room sound I guess. lol. I’m always curious how something else sounds. ☺️

The FL Diezel cab with v30s is the brightest of sll I’ve tried . Remember is ok to turn treble and presence up

I have a JCM800 1960 Lead 4x12 with T75's, and yeah, I've got a VH4 too. I can do some clips at some point.

Ha ha…right on. I am with you for sure. I have run it different ways to find the perfect spot. I do like lower volumes where a lot of the “grit, gravelly” kind of tone lies…if I’m getting the in the room feel I like. Recorded on my Boss Waza TAE, it’s cranked around 12 o’clock on master volume. The amp wails for sure and is a beast! I’m probably always more inclined towards the crunchy sound of the Mesa Mark series amps…love the Mark VII!

I had a 2001 VH4S that I ran into one. Compared to the Oversized Recto 4x12, it sounded cleaner than the V30s in the Recto cab. I remember lowering the deep settings (stereo version) to control the sub-bass the T75s tend to have, and I backed off the presence some.

I favored the V30s, but the 1960A wasn't bad. If that's all you have access to, don't let that hold you back. You can always change speakers later on. The VH4 has a lot of power in its ability to dial out undesirable tonal traits.

Good to know. I do like that about the VH4…I feel like there are so many sounds that can come from it. Just changing dials, especially to different extremes seems to change sound a lot.
