Hello. I have had my VH4 for 4 months and it has worked flawlessly.

Suddenly developed a problem today. Turned on the master volume, and everything was OK. Turned the unit ON from STANDBY, and now there is an irregular, static-y, hiss-y type sound coming out through the cab. It is fairly loud. It is completely independent of the volume setting on the unit. It is completely independent of anything plugged into the unit as well. Recycled a couple of times with no improvement. Nothing else has changed since the unit was functioning normally.

Any ideas?
What should I try or do next?

I can use the unit as normally, but these noises are certainly loud enough to hear through my playing.

Thank you.
Kevin

Turn the master down and listen if the noise is there.

If yes, pull out the power tubes step by step to find out
the broken one. Don´t burn your hands !

Yes, Peter, the noise is still there with the master volume all the way down.

I will try pulling the power tubes 1 by one. I have never had a tube amp or done anything like this before. I assume the back of the amp unscrews and comes off? The power tubes are the largest 4 tubes at the back of the unit, correct?

Thank you.
Kevin

OK. If I find the culprit tube, can I just replace that 1 tube, or do I need to replace all 4? Do I need to re-bias when replacing 1 tube?

Thanks again. Very new to all of this.

There is sticker on the tube base with a number.

Please tell me which number and send an email to

Cheers,
Peter

I removed the amplifier from the housing to prepare for removing the tubes.

Then, I turned the amplifier on, and the noise I described is completely gone. All of the power tubes seem to be glowing normally.

Is there anything else I need to do at this point, or should I just start using the amplifier normally again?

Thanks!

Kevin
