Hi,

I know I'm fairly new around here, but I have been lurking the place quiete a while now ;)

Well, I have the opportunity to buy a used Diezel Einstein 100W.
The seller says it's 3 years old and hasn't been used much.

He sent me a pic, it looks good, but I noticed some rust on the knobs. (I wouldn't know else it could be?)

- Anyone else have this on their amp?
- Is this something to be cautious about? need to check other things as well?
- Is there a tonal difference with this older model and a current model?

thx guys,
xtine

Hello Xtine,

the rust on the screws is no problem. You can easily buy replacement screws at a hardware store, just bring a sample.

This Einstein is exactly like the current model. I've got the same head and love it.

I would recommend a full tube change, though, or at least a power tube swap. Most sellers claim they hardly used their amps, almost all ads and listings state that. If he did use the amp regularly for 3 years you need a tube change for sure.
I would start fresh with a new set of tubes with any used amp. Just negotiate a break with the seller.

Cheers,

Jens

Thanks, I usually change the tubes either way, but I don't really get it how rust gets on there.
I figure, rust comes from moist environments, right? so I'm not really sure yet how that affects the other components of the amp.

He wants 1100 Euros for it. Decisions decisions.

Last time I went checking on a an older amp, the seller said it was perfect and that it got serviced recently.
That "recently", happened to be 16 years ago.... lol

Yeah, most sellers really "inflate" the history to their advantage. I would not count on the truth of it.

Maybe he took the amp scuba diving for all we know, right?

Ask the seller to take the amp out of the shell and take photos of the inside and back pannel. If you don't see more rust you should be good to go. Ideally you should pay with credit card (through PayPal for example) so if you get DOA (dead on arrival) you can claim the funds back.

Thanks, but I'll be testing it before I buy.
Just wanted to be prepared and collect info before hand.

This amp will sound bad with the rust on the knobs

Just kidding ... take a black marker or replace the screws.
We also can send You some.
