been thinkin on gettin one of these bastards again!i had one as my main rig for over 10 yrs.i sold it to free up some cash about 3 yrs ago,and sometimes i miss it.it was very versatile.i thought the distortions were good, and the fx very good.would be mainly using it for fx.and to practice at home.probably the 4 cable method.

but now,my tastes in tones have changed completely.i love that marshall jcm 800 sound.2101 not known for that.but i won't be using it for that.i'd hate to re-buy one and find out its way too digital sounding.i know technology has come along way since '99 when these came out.

i tried the 1101 for a month and i just didn't like it.sounded very sterile to me.very digital.
i had the standard snax and amongst other things, was just way more than i needed.
i have guitar rig 4 and i'm not completely sold on that just yet.i found some good, some not so good.
not interested in the g-system.
i have enuff pedals to not wanna get an Eventide rackmounted unit

so its between the 2101 used.which i already know my way around
the eleven rack.
or the g-major 2.

who has/does own these and whats ur opinions?

I don't know for sure since I've never compared but find it hard to imagine the 2120 would sound better than the 1101. I use the 1101 with both my amps (mesa mark III and Fryette SigX) in 4-cable and sometimes I get confused whether or not I'm on a patch with real amp or gsp1101 sim. I can get the gsp1101 sounding pretty close to the amps if I wanted. I know the digitech doesn't sound good if you don't tweak it right though, update the software to the latest version, use the right cab sims if you're going full range.
I'd go with the eleven rack if you want to move on to something better.

yeh,i know what u mean.the 1101 i just couldn't get to sound right.i did see the digi-truck at my local store when the 1101 came out.sounded great then.i tried one out last year and it didn't sound the way i wanted it too.to me,it just sounded like a rack mounted version of the gnx 3000.but i also had snax type stars in my eyes at that time too.i might've been hoping the 1101 was bad so i could justify a snax purchase.at this point i def like to hear a tube amp pushing air thru speakers.

i'm not counting the 1101 out tho.

I've heard not good things about the 11r in 4CM. The loop out is line level only, which probably won't play well with the input of your amp.

Also, you owe it to yourself to check out the lexicon mpxg2. It should be around $300 used, and in my direct comparison with the 1101, ( each in their own pre/post loops in my GCX ) the G2 won hands down. For 4CM, the G2 is much warmer and natural sounding.

i ran 2 2101s in my rack for years. and still miss them. my tone tastes have changed, but i have a feeling if i ever got one (which, i keep saying im going to do) again, i'd get it tweaked to where i wanted it sounding....

i ran one thru my mosvalve using the digital grunge distortion and the other thru a boogie 50/50 using the tube distortions, and it was just absolutely stunning how deep, hard hitting and deep/good they sounded like that, esp in a live setting. i still say the 2101 was one of the best multi effect rack units ever. thinking back to the hours of programming and tweaking seriously makes me want to splurge and get one version or another of the axe fx..i miss that late night programming, as insane as that sounds.

be advised too, the 2101/ 2112-2120's were pretty different from each other. the 2101 was deeply editable.
the 2112 and 2120's weren't as editable, but offered dual distortions, which, a lot of people liked. i had my 2 2101's running tandem before the dual distortion version became available,a nd pretty much had it set in stone with my tweaks re: my programs and sounds.

to each his own though. right now, my back up unit is a behringer v-amp pro that im using while my tourmaster is down, and most people here would call me retarded if i even posted my opinion about it, and im not really interested in reading negative mojo regarding gear, so i dont say anything.

i ran my 2120 thru a mosvalve mv-962.was really good sounding.i see the 2120s on evilbay al the time.just never go as far as pulling the trigger.i have zero interest in the 2101 or 2112.

i also believe the 2120 was the best processor ever.sure the snax kills it now.but to me the 1101 is a rack-mount version of the gnx 3000.which was really useless other than a practice tool.

the 1101,i can get a good deal on at my local store,i just have it in my head its not a step up from the 2120.

i have the amps to get the sounds i want.i'm kinda lookin into a rack mount fx unit.i'll check into that lexicon.but i think in the end a damn eventide or g major 2 is gonna win out.i have a friend who has the eleven rack.waitin to hear his thoughts on that.

thx.

I've still got my 2101.

I haven't even turned it on in years, but it WAS my main rig for many many years. I Simply loved that thing. Freaked people out with all the different sounds and effects I used to use all the time...
Even this one time I was playing in a Hardcore band, and I start this one song with some effects...and all these people are like...what the hell is that!!@!! They were trying to peek at the pedalboard to see what it was, even though it was in the rack...funny.

It is even the Limited Edition Goldfaced one.

Want it? I think I even still have the Control One somewhere.

PM me and make me a deal. I figure I would miss it, but in reality, I probably would never really use it again, since I've been using the Axe-FX, and will be getting a II eventually.

I used the GSP2101 back in these days...here...
I'm on the left side of the screen, and the 2101 is the deeper heavier sounding amp. I think I used a Marshall 8080 Power amp back then. The other guitarist was using a Legend21. It was always amazing how much better mine sounded than his, which always was too crispy and digital.

is yours the dual ppc210, version 3.01a, or whatever the last version was?

man, i fucking loved that 2101. there was so much stuff i did with that, in really wild innovative ways, and i got to learn it REALLY well. i think the simplest, coolest thing that i loved on my rhythm channels were to dial back my preamp gain and turn the noise gate off, just by flicking the treadle pedal back all the way in the blink of an eye. i also loved that you could control ANY parameter in the unit with the treadle pedal too....made it super versatile.

one of those 2101's with the dual s-disc seamless program changes and the final software release were really versatile.

and i never even messed with the tubes in mine for different sounds. i just put 2 groove tubes in there when my clean sounds started sounding shaky.

damn, i just may take you up on this offer in the future, but not right now...custody court is a calling. again.

btw, awesome, deep ass tone on those vids.

makes me miss mine even more. were you using the dual tube saturated tube setting for that?

i used the grunge distortion for most of my distortions, but used the saturated tube for a few settings and the distorted tube ALWAYS sounded killer to me man.

Ya know, I think it was probably the sat. Tube setting. Grunge sold me on the unit but was too dark or scooped or something and didn't work for me live.
I think most of my darker heavier tones in that unit are the dual sat tube.
And yeah, mine was modded to the max...dual card, upgraded chip.

makes you wanna dig it out and jam away.
that grunge distortion was unique to those units. it was really hard to play too...which i love.!
