Hey guyz,

I get a a fair few emails thru my site, Facebook and Youtube asking if its possible to get AXE FX / Kemper-esque Tones without the $$$ needed for the gear.
Short answer, I guess, is NO - BUT - Its still a lot of fun to mess around and try to get weird/cheap stuff sounding good.

So, with that in mind - I got my MXR GT-OD and ran it into a DIGITECH Death Metal Distortion pedal then straight into my new QSC power amp to see what would happen.

I used a Shure SM57 and a Sennheiser e906 to mic the Celestion Vintage 30's in my Blackstar 4x12" cab

The overdrive is turned WAY down - its cutting the signal going into the Death Metal Distortion to back off some of the preset gain.
The color of the GT-OD helps tighten up the pedal a lot too.

Anyways, Heres the video -

Using solid state pedals to emulate digital modellers which are programmed to replicate analog tube amplifiers.

This confuses me but nice job anyway

Haha well played. Im sure dialed in a mix you'd probably never know lol

wow, wonder what this would sound with a little eq tweak...Makes me want to sell my amp.

Recorded sound/tone, and how it sounds and feels in the room are totally different.
To me, this has got that tight, sharp attack of a high gain SS Randall. Which is cool. But still lacks that BODY and SIZE of the typical high gain tube amp setup.
Not great, but not bad either. Wouldn't be my primary high gain sound, that's for sure. Great backup tool though.

Not bad. You've essentially used a hybrid amp- solid state preamp into a valve poweramp.
