Doing another warmoth Strat this year (Alder, Maple Neck hss) All 3 of my Strats have the Suhr Aldrich in the bridge. i thought i might try something different with the bridge this time. Has anyone tried or have the Crunch Lab? How do you think they compare with the Aldrich

No experience with the Aldrich, sorry.

I have the CL in one of my guitars and it is a very distinct pickup. It is clear, and easy to control if you're playing high gain. It's also the most even pickup that I have ever heard. Bass, treble and mids are all very even. In fact, they're so even, it's borderline sterile sounding. But once you dial in some high gain and strum through a chord and you can hear every note, you tend to fall in love. I enjoy it.

Love it in my JP6. Easily my favorite pickup in any of the guitars I have.

I love my crunch lab. It's very colorful and musical sounding to me. I have been playing evolutions for years, but I put this thing in one of my guitars and was instantly happy. I like ceramic magnet pickups though... some don't like the clear edge that type of pickup produces, but I prefer the immediacy of the sound. Over all, a great hi-fi sounding pickup to me.

How does it sound in Mahogany though? I've read some opinions that some people don't like it in that wood......

I'm one of those that didn't like the Crunch lab as much. I've had both the 6 and 7 string versions. I found it just that....crunchy. It was in one of my Mahogany/Maple top J-Customs. I opted for an EVO2 instead and it sounded much nicer.

I had one in an Ibanez Xiphos, and never cared much for it. Very 'meh'.

Swapped it for the new Dominion(not a LoG fan at all), and I'm much, much happier.

I'm not a LOG fan either.......what do you like about the Dominion?

If you're putting it in a mahogany guitar I'd suggest installing it with the solid bar towards the bridge to keep from getting too much bass. Installing this way will keep more high-end push and should sound great. I've got the CL in several guitars and it's tied for #2 favorite with the Steve Morse Bridge model. Number One is still the Super 3 but that pickup can sound a little dark in mahogany. Although, I've got a Super 3 in an Ibanez S Series and it grinds like mad.

It's like a tighter Breed; lots of mids, not too hot, clear low end. I plan to get another to swap out a Super 3 in an RG.
