I haven't really been a DiMarzio user for the past 15 years. I've had a couple of pickups, but they were quickly pulled. I've been in a quest to find a bridge pickup that I liked in my Les Paul Standard. After trying several Duncans and some high end boutique pickups, I figured what the hell... Let's try a Super Distortion. I'm glad I did. This pickup rocks. I decided to go for the 70s look and ordered a Super D and a 36th Anni PAF in double cream. Looks pretty sharp to me. Enjoy...

Damn what a great tone you have going there. Thats the tone i want for my ESP. How does this pickup combo sounds splitted? And thanks for posting, this was a real eye opener

Honestly, I couldn't tell you about the split tones. I stopped wiring coil taps in my Les Pauls a few years ago. Maybe someone else can chime in with their impressions of split tones.

Sounds great! How would you compare the Super Distortion to a SD Custom and SD Distortion?

It is very similar to the Custom, but with better string definition and note separation. It's not as hot as the Duncan Distortion. And I think single notes are fatter than with either Duncan.

I really like that pup as well BUT I wish it were just a bit tighter and more defined in the low end. Like the EQ and the highs other than that. Tons of gain too. It's hot.

EVH 5153 + LP equals badass...what kind of EFX are you using?

All of the effects (mainly verb and delay with a little pitch shift) were from the TC G-Major 2.

Sounds killer.

I've got a Super Distortion in a Stratocaster. That guitar rips.

Classic humbucker for a reason. It just works.

please tell me thats a quarter pound in the neck?? .. I have that combo and it is killer

OP try a super 2 paired with the super D ... great combo also

I've been using this pickup in my standard for ages. Just recently tried a Motor city pick up instead. There def more gain in the SD but the Motor City is clearer (note to note definition).
It does sound great in the video.

I've seen a few people mention that they moved on from the Super D because it wasn't defined enough... Not quite sure how that could be. I find the pickup to be every bit as defined as the BKP Rebel Yell I had in this same guitar a few months ago. To me the Super has a much better ass end than the RY. But I find it to be very defined across the neck. I use a lot of 9 and 13 chords in my playing, and find the super lets every nite in a complex chord shine through. I can understand that this pickup isn't for everyone, but I just don't understand people saying it's not defined. Then again, my ears are getting old. Lol

Maybe what I mean is that I find the low end too fat and that is what is causing me to feel it is not defined..

How would it compare with the suhr Aldrich? Hotter, tighter, etc?

I always thought the Super Distortion was fairly decent pickup in any body or tone wood I put it in. I have a couple of them, I like pairing them with PAF's. I usually can find a DiMarzio or Duncan pickup to get the job done.

I like the dual cream look too I have a 36 ani set in my Trad + for a while. I just bought a set of nickle covers and may cover them but not sure as I want to cover the dual creams on the R7 ann going back and forth which ones i wanna cover so they both are uncovered dual creams :)

Great great tone. How loud were you playing?

The master was at 9 o'clock. But I was using the G major 2 to reduce the volume further. It was definitely conversational volumes.
