I have a guitar on it's way (please offer a sacrifice to the shipping gods for me) and it has a Tone Zone in the bridge. The only Dimarzio I have ever had was an Evolution in a RG570 years ago. I have been a JB guy for a long time. What can I expect?

I love the Tone Zone in certain guitars. It's definitely one you need to tweak a bit with in order to get the gain/bass right, as it has a really thick low-mid range bump. Height adjustment can really affect the tone as well.

I also like the Tone Zone. Good all round pickup that has plenty of beef. Sounds best in basswood bodys imo

I had a Charvel So-Cal land today just after my initial post. Needs to be cleaned up a little bit but after that, I should be able to figure how the Tone Zone sits with my rig.

tonezone is one of my favorite pickups. they dont like dark wood guitars though as its a mid gained pickup and can seem muddy.

i love them with maple/maple necks. even then though, its a great harmonic and high output pickup. you should be impressed. it has the distinctual dimarzio tone as well so if that is your thing, you wont have a problem with it at all

I've been thinking of putting one in the bridge of my Strat. Good Match ?

that pickup kills in woods like basswood and alder.

ive never tried it in swamp ash, could give it a shot though.

but if your strat is of those types, i'd say most definately give it a shot.

if they are woods like poplar, padauk, mahogany (very dark), i would look into something else.

that pickup also balances well with bright necks, so ebony/maple or maple/maple necks always sound great with it

fwiw - I think it sounds great in my PRS all mahogany SC.

Alright thanks. My Strat is Alder and I'm finding the guitar sounds thin and too bright with the current bridge 'bucker.

best way that i can describe it is that it mellows out with great distinction. let us know what you think afterwards, if you decide to bounce on one

Got a Tone Zone and a PAF Pro in my Ibby Prestige, liked it so much I put the same combo in a PRS singecut and it sound fantastic. The Paf Pro sound super with a series/parallel switch

think you could post a clip of the paf pro series/parallel setup?

ive got a brand new PAF pro that i was gonna replace the ibanez version air norton with.

i prefer dimarzio air nortons over the ibanez V7 air norton, sounds more like the real thing.

ill be running an SH-6/air norton setup in the ESP. would love to to hear the tones your getting with that tonezone/PAF dude. i love the tonezone in my prestige

where at in NC are you located?

I tried the Air Norton also, I didnt like it nearly as well as the PAF Pro.
I've got and old Gibson SG-X (solid mahogany body, ebony fingerboard, one pickup)
that I put a PAF Pro in with a series parallel switch in. I can get great Queen tones with it in parallel.
I am located in Graham, N.C.
about 45-50 min. from Wake forest

ive been to the wake forest stadium a few times in charlotte. cool place!

im about 20 minutes outside of hickory, was just curious :)

my prestige has the air norton stock, but its the ibanez design model. it sounds alright, and will do of course. but i would prefer dimarzio's version.

but yeah like i said, if you have any way of recording a youtube clip post up a video of that setup in the ibanez please

Well for night number one, it sounds pretty good. It's a nice change from my LP Trad Pro tone.

For me it was really muddy; hated it.

yeah way to warm and smooth for me.. Lot of warm bottom end with cut treble.

I'll take a Dimarzio over a Seymour Duncan any day. However, the Tone Zone isn't my favorite Dimarzio. I find it to be too strong in the bass and lower midrange, a little muddy, and slightly harsh on the top end. I prefer the Norton over the Tone Zone. In fact, the Norton is probably my favorite Dimarzio pickup.

It's basically a Tone Zone but less muddy, bassy and better dynamics. The output is moderately high, and it's more versatile than the Tone Zone. It definitely sounds better with clean amps than the Tone Zone. It also screams with harmonics.

The Norton is a fantastically underrated pickup. The Tone Zone is a good pickup, just not something I like. You might like it if you want a lot more thickness out of your guitar.
