Whats your favorite? Riot, Pinnacle?

I really like the original Guvnor.

used to love my son of hyde distortion that i boosted with an OCD. was a great high gain lead tone that i did solo stuff with in highschool.

My Blackstar HT Dual sounds great at gig volume. Gave my Carvin Legacy's lead channel a run for it's money...

Natural preamp gain and power tube grind, baby... All the way. If yer giggin', and you've got the right amp, should be getting there on its own.

If not, BB Pre has given me solid results at leg shaking volumes.

Nice. The BB preamp or the bb plus?

All time fav is Soldano GTO  had it for 10 yrs. Retired it from gigging when I got my Diezel. I use a Riot from time to time now.

+1 , i was using a HT dual into a hiwatt custom 100 for a while, amp was super clean, HT dual sounded pretty good, took some clips, this wasn't at a high volume from what i recall

https://soundcloud.com/paulb2/pedalboard ... nto-hiwatt

have since migrated to a 30watt amp , with a BB preamp and an MXR custom OD this is the result (it's about gigging volume in the vid), i put both boosts/ods on to get more grind/saturation but i think with one set the right way you could get something similar, i just like options =) :

Here's my default answer: Radial Bones London dual distortion.

Used it in front of a clean plexi type amp, gigged with it for what, six months and loved it all the way! The only pedal I basically had w/ me at our only "flydate" last summer as well, got "my sound" w/ me in my pocket. If you're looking for a Marshallish saturated sound, this one's got it in spades.

Wampler Pinncale have served very good for a number of gigs, extremely amplike and natural feel from it.

Same here... the Pinnacle has worked very well for me. Also had great results with a Hermida Zendrive and a Nobels ODR-1.

Wampler Triple Wreck!

This

It is a monster in a box. I have a gig where a bunch of guys meet up and have a party and play all night every once in a while. I could end up playing Dire Straits to Manson.

A Triple Wreck and a Dr Z Maz 38 will cover it all. A dominating pedal.

For a more normal pedal, the OCD works well. There is enough tape recorded with a tube screamer recorded on it to circle the earth.

Dirt boxes are picky. My Xotic AC boost was sonic sex with my Rivera Knuck Tre. Sounds bland with my DSL, like canned shit with the MKIIC, ok with the 5153.

Unless you can try it, there is always the crapshoot element. Except for the Triple Wreck, it dominates whatever amp you put it on cleanish with and that amp becomes a Rectif   iier!

Most pedals mentioned here are NOT distortion pedals.
I've. never found a distortion pedal that works at gig volumes. I've tried many.

I have had good luck with the Hermida Distortion for gigs. I have been comparing it to the BYOC Chancellor (Guv'nor clone) I built and in most cases I prefer the Hermida Distortion. The Barber dirty bomb also works well at gig volumes, but you have to watch the gain.

Here are some pedals I have owned in the past, that I eventually sold after hearing them at gigs and in their recordings afterwards.
Ibanez SD-9
Boss Metalzone MT-2
MI audio crunchbox

Wampler has some pedals I do want to check out.

I was thinking the same with pre amp distortion, so I guess I am wondering, Are you just running the clean channel of an amp and using a pedal for distortion?

If so I dont have tons of experience with that but the original Zoom Driver sounded amazing to me for that function.

It has 5 presets that can go anywhere from Sweedish Metal to Black Metal and Funk. :)
