Because why not. Since moving to Japan I came across a paste:balm based fretboard conditioner. It was the best I had used and lasted almost 2 years because it not being a liquid, you don’t waste much. Additionally, I always thought lemon oil didn’t last long. I had went to buy more a few times and it’s always sold out. My luthier even uses it. I knew it was jojoba oil based, but pure jojoba is liquid.

After some research I found a woodworking article talking about using jojoba and beeswax on raw rosewood and ebony as a natural conditioner. I have to note that many people frown upon using wax on a fretboard, but it not really a wax in a tradition sense like most petroleum based wax’s. I found other articles referencing 4:1 mixture of jojoba to beeswax. I have it a try and was was pretty spot on to what I was using with the exception of me using natural, unleash oil and was.

The result is an initial texture of lip balm but get soft as you rub your fingers on it making it super easy to apply by hand. There’s absolutely no residue afterwards and makes the board look darker. I’d several test spots and after a few days, it retains the depth much better than lemon oil. I also think using the unbleached ingredients does result in a slightly deeper and darker result.

Left is a new neck and right is 24 hours after the wipe down.

How do you know it’s not jojoba? Red flag number one with snake oil sellers is not listing ingredients. They claim plant based and not lemon oil. Jojoba is plant based and not lemon oil, so it’s possible. Also, my mix is not chapstick. Chapstick is is petroleum based.

The beeswax is only wax by name. It does not clog wood pores and mixed with other oils has been widely accepted a proven to be a highly effective wood conditioner than does not build up.

Fractionated coconut oil works great and is cheap on amazon

Lemon oil is mineral oil and mostly water. You never want water on wood especially exotic musical instruments.
Why the Fuck wont you try it ? You think im out to Fuck you.
You afraid to try something new b/c your way doesn't work ?
Cuse da Fuck outta me Gomer.
20 years of experience w/a great product and free advice to a guy i never met down da tubes.
0.00 Fucks given.
In 50 years of guitar ive never met anyone who recomends a wax buildup on a guitar.

I use swedish beeswax on my lips and Fret Doctor on my guitars.
The guy that developed FD originally used to retore woodwinds instruments like Fifes from the 1700's bring those back to life with his product.
We all get older and he sold his product. If they told you the ingredients some little Asian Fucker would steal it.

Bro, why do you sound angry and miserable all of the time. I’m not saying your product isn’t great. I’m just saying it’s not the only option and dispelling information like yours that this leaves a build up. Even oils in not used excessive or not thoroughly wiped down will cause build up. You read can about Howard’s feed and wax on almost any music forum and no one is complaining about buildup and it has beeswax in it. There’s zero downside to using a beeswax and oil blend on unfinished wood. I e been using it for 2 years and use it every string change and there’s zero buildup, zero residue
