How much luck are you guys having with these things? I have to go thru my pedal board again and figure out wtf is wrong. My suspicion is that on of the core cables has come loose and killing my chain, possibly a loose jack on a pedal. I have to get this solved soon and I'm wondering what the best solution is.

re cut and assemble my current core cables?

buy some planet waves pre assembled cheapies to get buy?

maybe try some mogami and right angled ends and solder my own? Although I have no idea where to purchase mogami and ends from, and I have a show coming up in less than a week.

have some prefabbed by lavacable and shipped out....

Ugh.

Buy your own cable and jacks and solder them yourself bro!

Much cheaper than going out and buying a bunch of cables, and also having soldered connections is always better than solder-less connections for reliability

Some people will argue with my thoughts on this, and say Monster cables suck etc., but to me they sound decent all though I'm sure there are probably better sounding cables, but here's the deal...

1) yes they are expensive
2) no you can't repair them

BUT

3) Any time one breaks you go to any GC or Sam Ash, they give you a new one on the spot, I've never even had to bring a receipt, were talking 100% brand new in box no wait time nothing...

To ME and I've already broken 3 cables this way if not more in the past year or so, it's 100% worth it... if I had to go out and buy new ones, it would have cost me well over $100 extra, so even with cheaper cables in the long run I feel I'm saving money.

I agree with Dallas about the cost effectiveness of the monster cable. Over the last ten years I have broken and replaced 27 monster cables. it is no hassle and you get a brand new cable in box as he said.

I am also one who switched cable brands and was astounded how poor the monster cables sounded to me in comparison.

I switched to Colossal Cables which I posted a review of in the reviews section.

As for solderless connections yeah they may be easy to make custom lengths but using solderless cables live to me is asking for trouble, i personally would never take the chance.

I suggest making your own.

Canare GS-4 for pedalboards and Canare GS-6 for Guitar cables.

Mogami is good as well and they have mini and standard sizes as well.

Mogami is another cable I would like to try...

I still like the George L's stuff, big and little. Never let me down. And you can solder George L's cable to normal jacks if you like.

I found it easier to just order some Mogami cable, some nuetrik ends and solder it myself. At least I know the connections are good this way. Cheaper than using the solder-less stuff too.

Where did you order from? Did some searching online and I may do the switchcraft ends, either 226 or 228.

This.. once you do a few, you can make a bunch of new cables in no time, at a fraction of the cost of buying a cable brand new.

I usually buy from redco or performance audio. Haven't really shopped around to find the lowest price but always had good experiences with both.

I usually get mogami and neutrik from Redco audio. http://www.redco.com
They ship quick and have always had what I needed in stock. Not too pricey either.
They do have some switchcraft connectors, but not sure if they carry what you mentioned.

Having been bitten by solderless pedal board "kits" I would never recommend it. Buy high quality pre-made patch cables or solder your own. Solderless is just not an option if you care about signal quality or reliability IMO.

Redco.com

Mogami 2319 cables are .36/foot and Rean rt angle plugs made by Neutrik are only $1. They carry the full Neutrik line as well as Switchcraft. I just built a lot of patch cables for my board and cost $65. Thats 30 feet of Mogami 2319 and 50 Neutrik rt angle plugs. How much Lava or GLs can you buy at that price?
