That wasn't the point of the article...
And this shit can be remarkably hard to play even on one string because the timing is complex. It's not for everyone, however I didn't really view this thread as
"Best song ever everyone will love it". It's basically create music... your music.

Invariably someone will think it sucks, it's just how music works

FWIW, I like that genre and think this dude proved a point... :D

+1 to the entire post. 8)

I've read that post/quote about 5 times and it's basically a high level philosophical umbrella covering the creation of music in general and being open to that purpose regardless of interpretation.

What the author confuses is that the ability to have specific opinions about specific pieces e.g. what appeals to us and what doesn't, in no way stifles being open to the grander purpose of creating music. To use a "respect all music" philosophy in place of your discerning tastes is a disservice to yourself and those creating the music by not providing open and honest feedback.

If I released a song I want it to sink or swim on its own merit, not survive because people were being respectful of the "art".

Btw this song sucks my ass.

when my drummer and I get in that "frame of mind" and do some drop tune stuff....I usually only play the top 2 strings and it sounds heavy as hell with a 'groove'.....music comes from the person. If you can rock it....rock it!
Loved the clip by the way. ;)

Let me be the Fist and probably only guy in this thread
to say "THAT SONG SUCKED DONKEY BALL'S"!!!!!
If an entire song can song can be played on 1
Bass String (bolted to a Broomstick nonetheless)...
I really have a hard time finding the Talent in that!!

I salute the Inventiveness and Solid Chugging,
definitely cool to watch. I just can't stand the Genre
of Music.....Lead Singer SCREAMING HIS LUNGS OUT
and Guitar playing that can be played on a Bass.
Call Me Crazy but
I enjoy Dude's that can play all 6-7 Strings, with
Melody and Soulful Leads.
Oh, and an Actual Singer.....One that SING'S.

I'm never going to read a God Damm Thing you ever post with those tits coming down the stairs like that.

Dug it. Just proves you don't need 7-8-78 strings to be heavy as hell.

In all seriousness this makes the actual opposite point to me...a lot of would-be djenters are in reality just wanking off on 1 or 2 strings. The chug can be cool, but mixing it up with the broader range of notes and overall dynamics makes things much more interesting (and we are swimming in an ocean of repetitive detuned riffing these days). It's not about being close-minded, and I hate music elitism in general, but while there are some artists/bands who have done some inspiring playing like this, I feel like a lot of people gravitate to this type of playing because they buy gear that can chug and they don't know how to do anything else with it.

I agree that mixing "can" make things more interesting, but it doesn't always. I really want metal continue to succeed and evolve but the bar is set too low right now; any dutuned wanking is defended. The swimming pool is like 50:50 IMO and only the community that uses the pool can clean it up. :)

I don't know that the bar is set too low overall, as an old-timer at this point as much as I still love my old school stuff, I've never been inspired more by the variety of metal available today. Ever flavor of power/prog/death/thrash/melodic/etc. is out there, harsh vocal/clean vocals, detuned/regular tunings...it's all there in abundance if you spend anytime whatsoever looking.

My feeling with the djenty stuff is like it's the anomaly in modern metal...powerful riffing applies to most aspects of metal, but unlike thrash or death metal or the like, the "djenty" sound to me just loses its balls instantly. Everything that makes an electric guitar plugged into a tube amp great just feels neutered, like the player wants to be making percussive techno noises and not heavy metal. But hey...it works for some and despite my comments, there's room for all of us.

Anyway, I said I would probably be the only in this
thread to say "It Sucks" and it look's like I am.
In all seriousness, it doesn't Suck...I just don't see
the point.
Like I said, it is inventive and his timing is Great
No doubt. I guess the singer SCREAMING his Tonsil's
out, bothers me the most!!!
I DO LIKE THE LEGO BRIDGE THOUGH!!

This is what I think of of when I think of after the burial, takes a lot more than a stick to do this.

These bands are outselling previous iterations like it or not the kids love it and djent does not threaten metals existence in any way.

Music is art. Do what YOU want. If you base your feelings of success based on how your album sells instead of the joy it gives YOU having created it you lose twice.

Sounds pretty metal to me...

Someone said djent is going to destroy metal or something along those lines. I disagree.

But does it dje-
Oh...

Very interesting point on gear, this guy did it on a stick plugged into a Line 6 POD into a computer while some of us drool over 4 figure amps and guitars and pedals and racks thinking we can't possibly do anything until we get it all

What to absolutely not to do, ever, no seriously....

What to actually try and do that is worth doing....
