Really. DLR and EVH are both a pair of washed up has-beens. I wish they'd fade into the background and stop embarrassing our musical generation.

ps. take Lynch and Malmsteen with you

Yeah, give Gaga and Bieber their time unencumbered.

"Call me maybe"

Oh, believe me, I'm not saying today's music isn't an embarrassment.
I just wish the guys that made the music of our generation awesome would either quit while they still have their fans respect, or create more music and less drama.

& whos to replace them? Got anybody modern in mind? exactly.....

Since DLR spoke out in favor of Mike, it's over.

As for who is at fault, I was always in Ed's camp (being a wannbe fanboi and all) until Sammy got the same treatment. It was like the brothers were reading from the same script they used when Dave left. There's a disease in Van Halen for sure, but it ain't the singers.

"Our musical generation." LOL!!!!!

I agree man. It's crazy all these lame musical types who just keep playing and stuff.

I am thinking they should retire. Tired of the DLR soap opera.

Has there really been a lot of drama around VH over the last year or so? I haven't seen it.

Most bands have some drama, VH has quite a bit more than usual. And yes Sammy's book was very eye opening. This situation rings familiar BTW. Roth quit the band after the making of 1984 because "mr. fingers couldn't get out of bed".

I'm all for an instrumental from Eddie. May be too late for it to be fresh and cool. Wherever the brother/singer conflict originates, just accept it and move on. I've only ever listened to VH for Eddie anyways.

Really? You're proud to wave the Van Halen flag? or the Lynch flag? or the Malmsteen flag? for their current catalog of work?
It's not about them still playing, it's about them still playing the same riffs from two decades ago.
They ran out of creativity and became whiny bitches to stay in the spotlight.
Meanwhile, guys from the same generation who continue to write new, creative music, (Gilbert, MacAlpine, Kotzen, Moore) they don't get caught in the trappings of being rock stars.

I know I'm not going to pull any one here away from your fan bus of choice. I'm just saying that some times I don't understand the idol worship from grown men.

The idol worship, I don't know how else to say it...they're like old war heroes. They did something at a point in time that will make them forever interesting to people who felt the impact, no matter what. Am I proud to wave the flag for their newer stuff? Not a bit really. And yes, a Paul Gilbert absolutely represents the cream of the old school still going stronger than ever.

In a couple of decades, a whole bunch of middle aged guys are gonna jizz themselves when Synyster Gates comes back after being away for over a decade. And it won't matter if he can still play well, they'll sound just like us and talk about it endlessly.

Nicely said.

Maybe they will all do exactly what they want to do, and tell tell the arrogant assholes that want to run their lives to fuck off.

Who thinks they have the right to tell someone else when to quit living their own life as they see fit?

That is insane...

What I'm saying is I have no problem with them continuing. If I don't like it, I ignore it. Quite frankly I haven't been into VH since before Sammy, but I'm not going to say they're old washed up has-beens because they're drawing more fans than you or I are. The same goes for old dudes playing in clubs. If they dig it and there's an audience for it then good for them.

My suggestion to you would be when you're old enough for college, enroll yourself quickly into an Introductory Logic course, because you seem to have a way of finding conclusions that clearly aren't there.

All I'm hearing is bla bla bla. <burp>

Read the suggestion I gave to your cronie.

Just how old do you think I am anyway?
Besides, it's an open forum, I'm a member and I'm entitled to my opinion. If you don't like it, ignore it and move on.

And EVH, and countless others that have actually attained legendary status as musicians can tell arrogant punks that think they should stop playing the same thing.

Two way street is what it seems like to me.

So I totally agree with you on that. Freedom of speech and creativity.

You know, they want to play, let em play. I mean, I don't think the last VH album did that bad in record sales and their tours have been monster. No way I would quit. And them boys can still play. No doubt about it. VH did better on their last album and tour than any of the people on here bitching about them. If you don't like them, don't listen. I would certainly be more than happy and proud if I did a peice of work that did as well as their last album. But to say they should quit is just insane. Lots of people out their that do dig their stuff. You just aren't one of them. That includes any of the people that you mentioned. If they have the drive and ambition to still create their music. More power to them. That's what making music is all about. Doing what they do. If one good song comes out of it......cool. I don't think you would ever even listen to know if there was anything good on any of the new stuff. I get it's your opinion, but lots of people don't agree with it. Me being one.

Synyster who ? :D

God bless you for playing aftec :salute:

Bob, I swear I have nothing but love for these guys, I'm about the biggest Lynch fanboy on the planet and Eddie invented the whole school of playing I was raised on. I meant the war heroes comment with absolute respect, but also with the reality that some of these guys may never really fully get their shit together again. Comment made because we were debating idol worship, meant to be a balanced answer, not a pot shot.

I really thought the Synyster reference would have exposed my true feelings in the matter. I somehow feel dirty now, gonna go put on some spandex and grab my tiger stripe Charvel and have some private 80's time.
