There are always VH threads regurgitating the same old shit over & over but for me DLR on his own was a far better musical proposition to my ears.

To me DLR out on his own could be the master showman he is plus he could actually pick or write songs that suited his style & voice.
Trying to sing over a lot of Eddie material would be a tough call for any vocalist no matter who you were.

VanHagar were a better song band without DLR plus DLR was a far more musical force with more appropriate songs for his voice. Plus the shackles were off him to do as he pleased.

Just a reminder of how good DLR was back then without the ball & chain of a band family named Van Halen.

I saw Steven do a great interview with Eugen Weber on the televised broadcasting station, channel no. #16 programming kinda pretty boring stuff. He played a unique progressive forward thinking version of The Frankenstein in the vein of For the love of God. Really.

BTW, I'm a simple connoisseur of "The Western Tradition" M-F (9:30-10:00)pm PDT  it helps greatly with my ongoing struggle to mastering harmonic theory inline with the degenerate Euclidean vector space, in general.

I'm clearly certain of all of this, just for giggles. %-)

Forget about it...

Moved to main RT sub-forum where I'm sure it'll be of interest.

Saw him with Vai and Sheehan 3 times including Halloween night at Maple Leaf Gardens which is my fave show I’ve ever seen. That was truelly a great band with an incredible show, musicianship, songs, tone. The works!

I don't get why you are bumping all of these but anyway...DLR either way, he was great up to a point before becoming a lounge singer.

For me it was always about the other guys in his band, whether it was VH or solo. But I will say this:

DLR music >>>>>>>>Gene Simmons music.

Dave did a pretty damn good job of going solo honestly probably better than if Ed had tried to. And no Im not knocking Ed hell it was his band but ya know Roth is the one suggested using their name. Fuckers a pretty smart cookie.

... and where it belongs.

As I've explained in other threads, those that I thought would elicit responses where bumped, the rest simply moved into the existing timeline.

I finished cleaning out the entire OTC pool yesterday (a 50-hour job) and inevitably a few threads were found that belonged here or in the feedback section. Now that the job's done there'll be no more. Sorry if it inconvenienced you mate.

Many years ago I'd read about the Van Halen tour rider and how it specifically
stated that the band wanted M&Ms backstage - but absolutely NO brown ones.

Everyone back then just figured it was rock stars being rock stars.

A few years back I read an interview with DLR where he explained why they did it.
The band was touring like crazy and always finding important requirements of the band/crew
being screwed up or missed by the staff at the various venues they played.

It was Dave's idea to state no brown.
The first thing the band's manager would do when they got to the hall was to check the M&Ms.

If they were missed or if there were brown ones he knew that the rider was not followed closely
and he'd raise holy hell with the venue to make sure they didn't miss or screw up anything
really important.

BRILLIANT!

(thanks @psmith68 )

It was brown M&M’s.

DLR with VH all day long!! That being said, DLR's solo music videos were an important part of my teen life.
