And that is why prices will not fall dramatically. The demand will still be there, and people will realize after today that if they sell now they might have to wait months before getting a replacement. And like I said, the new firmware is supposed to be very good.... I'll be keeping my Standard (third best guitar processor on the market)

Where's the demand for the 48+ Ultra's currently for sale?

All I see is excess supply.

good point, but i still think we are seeing a bit of a knee-jerk reaction. Probably you will be able to pick one up in the next few weeks rather cheap, I just can't see the prices plummeting like some people expect. It will probably be a good time for standard owners to upgrade to an ultra if they find a good deal... should be interesting. If fractal had more competition it would be a no-brainer, prices would surely fall. That's not the case from what I can see, it's a unique product (including the standard).

I'm not pleased they just announced a newer version after purchasing an Ultra 7 weeks ago but that's life. IMHO, the only real advantage I can see with the new unit is that it allows you save the name of the user preset cab. I'm really happy with my unit and so is my wife.

Download the new firmware, it sounds great!

Interesting point. On top of that the used ones up until this release held their value better than a lot of amps, preamps, let alone modelers. Name me one amp (Cameron's vapor amps excluded) or piece of gear that is basically a computer that has been around for 5 years that you could buy new and turn around at any point and time and sell it for a couple of bills hit. I can't think of any. That said that bubble was bound to burst at some point. I think the price will fall to what should have been the norm. In a couple of years I'm sure they'll fall below that but it will take some time.

Just sold my standard, last week, for $1400. Not saying I screwed the guy.....just what it was worth last week.

Simply because Fractal keeps the units scarce. Keeps the hype going. Keeps the exclusivity there. Adds to the mystique. If you could have walked into a GC and picked one up at anytime the value of the used ones would never had stayed in the$1,800s. Probably would have settled in the $1,200 - $1,400 range.

Funny reading post from 2 years ago about how it is, "just like a real amp, even better" and "the new firmware takes it to another level". 7 firmwares later and now a new unit and it's better than when it was perfect? It's all hype. It's a great unit at what it does. But from what I've read so is the 11 Rack.

And units like the TC 2290 hold their value pretty well after decades, so this is not a phenomenon exclusive to the Axe. It's preconceived marketing by making a product scarce. Done every day. Look at how many limited edition guitars come out and the price jumps or stays relatively the same in the used market. Klon. Cameron. Dumble. Etc. And we fall for it every time. ;)

Wow.
So glad I hated this thing.
For those who just bought one on credit, now you get share (in a small way) the emotions of homeowners the last coupla years...
Enjoy your "market correction".

As said earlier, TC2290.

Also, the Damage Control Timline sold for $400 new and people were paying over $500 for them, although in that case getting discontinued pushed up it's price.

I predict:
Standards $775-925
Ultras $1250-1400

I think this too, probably even lower for the Standard. It will become a dinosaur turd in a couple weeks and be like a Commodore 64 computer. Ultra's for around $1000-$1200. When people want their new toy and stay on the cutting edge, they will give in.

I bought a MarkV Combo for $1150 from a guy who paid $2000 eight months ago for it. Happens all the time with TOOOB amps.
Axe-Fx has been out for over 4 years and people were still getting around what they paid for it and more just last week!!
Because of the Axe-2, the Ultra & standard will drop around $500-$600 for now because of the relatively small % of owners who must own the new one right away.
Once the initial gas panic wears down we will see the Ultras/Standards hold a pretty damn good price because they are that good!!

I will be buying an Axe-2 when they are available and i own an Ultra. Not selling the Ultra till i compare both of them and even then i might keep for backup.
I own some cool TOOOOOB amps also. I don't see the problem. I buy good stuff that i like and don't worry about resale. It's a pretty rare concept i guess

I think the Standard will hold it's value better than the Ultra. The standard has always been the budget Axe, and it'll probably remain that way. If the price for a used Ultra and used Axe2 is only $200 difference out of $2k, most will opt for the Axe2. The Standard won't have to compete with the Axe2, so I think it'll be better off price wise.

In either case, I ultimately think Cliff will neglect the Ultra and Standard and updates will get lesser and farther apart. I mean, it's inevitable...he's moving on with to a more powerful platform that will better allow him to do what he wants to do. That's when they'll start to come down substantially in pricing.
