If fractal had more competition it would be a no-brainer, prices would surely fall. That's not the case from what I can see, it's a unique product (including the standard).

Name me one amp (Cameron's vapor amps excluded) or piece of gear that is basically a computer that has been around for 5 years that you could buy new and turn around at any point and time and sell it for a couple of bills hit. I can't think of any.

As said earlier, TC2290.

Also, the Damage Control Timline sold for $400 new and people were paying over $500 for them, although in that case getting discontinued pushed up it's price.

What do the Damage Contols go for mow that the Strymon Timelines will be out soon?

"In either case, I ultimately think Cliff will neglect the Ultra and Standard and updates will get lesser and farther apart. I mean, it's inevitable...he's moving on with to a more powerful platform that will better allow him to do what he wants to do. That's when they'll start to come down substantially in pricing."

What you don't get is that the Ultra/Standard don't need another update to sound killer, they already do and that won't change and are enough for 95% of guitarists.
The Ultras will settle in the $1500-$1600 range and the standards $1000-$1300 ( only 20-30% loss after over 4 years is amazing for most any gear )
The Axe-2 will get around list price and more for quite some time just like the others did.
The overseas buyers on Ebay will still prop up the prices of these because they are almost double the price in their country to buy brand new

Simply because Fractal keeps the units scarce. Keeps the hype going. Keeps the exclusivity there. Adds to the mystique. If you could have walked into a GC and picked one up at anytime the value of the used ones would never had stayed in the$1,800s. Probably would have settled in the $1,200 - $1,400 range.

Funny reading post from 2 years ago about how it is, "just like a real amp, even better" and "the new firmware takes it to another level". 7 firmwares later and now a new unit and it's better than when it was perfect? It's all hype. It's a great unit at what it does. But from what I've read so is the 11 Rack.

You know me.

The 11R doesnt even begin to approach the Axe. Its barely on the sidewalk, let alone in the house.

I could not be any happier with my Ultra, and the new one coming out doesnt change that one bit.

You want to talk hype? Lets talk about the super modded fill in the blanks that people are paying for nowadays...And sometimes even receive.

Now THATS hype.

For a while $500 and up, now the prices have calmed down a bit. I've seen them go for anywhere from $350 - $450.

Sure I get it. 5 versions ago was enough for 95% of guitarists...yet each version got more realer and more realer. Still getting more realer. Add new amp models in there and every version release is like a NAD for all Axe owners. Eventually when Cliff stops messing with them people are going to look to the betterer gear. He will neglect them...already you can't get the Jose modded Marshall with the Standard or Ultra. The writing is on the wall.

And eventually, other modellers will catch up or new ones will be released.

LOTS of amps are good enough for 95% of guitarists....yet here we are. ;)

You seem to keep up with what Cliff is doing quite a bit. Could you be one of those who just can't afford an Ultra(or even a standard) and are just bitter.

Don't feel bad just keep working hard, save your pennies and one day you might get to purchase one (probably someones 10 year old standard, but by then it will be vintage gear)

You're always just one firmware update away from being real...hamster on the wheel.

Once the updates stop, you can't get more real anymore. Psychologically this will fester in many guitarists minds and compel them to want to upgrade.

Much of the talk is just denial/justification mechanisms to make themselves feel better, but you know a good percentage of them (not saying all) secretly want to upgrade and don't want to publically admit it yet.

So, here's a classic example of the persecuted and misunderstood fan boys than never does anything wrong...it's always somebody else that makes them a douchebag. I've had a Standard and sold it. Nice try though.

The proof is in the pudding. Cliff isn't putting the Jose modded Marshall on the Ultra/Standard platform. Jump through as many mental hoops as you feel you need to, but you are going to see this more and more. You are going to have to upgrade, boy, if you want all the cool new stuff Cliff has to offer.

I dunno, people could do something crazy and wait to see if the II is really any better than an Ultra in the tone department...you guys remember tone, doncha?

Only a liberal would label a guy thats in business to....make money......as a guy making people jump through hoops.

Even funnier? That your whining about him not putting a modded mod of a mod on a modeler.

I'll skip using the little cartoony things here, as i'm not a 15 year old girl.

when it becomes the realest of the real it'll be sprouting tubes =0

i'm real...

:D

i wonder how people would have reacted if the axe 2 had some preamp tubes in it

still anxiously waiting for clips

Coming soon to the gear page...

"Axe FX II..this thing is a MONSTER!!!!"

Where did I say anything about Cliff making money jumping through hoops? Perhaps rereading would be of some benefit.

It's simple, Cliff isn't porting the Jose modded marshall to the old platform. You are going see more and more this. Why would Cliff want to keep updating inferior models that isn't capable of doing what he wants to do with them? It makes no sense. You and BYTOR, or Ben R, or Scott Peterson, or any other of the hyper sensitive AxeFX police might as well accept it because you are going to have to defend it in the future.

That clip of the Jose modded marshall that surfaced a while back was the AxeFX 2. It's a nice clip.
