Axe 2...

Not exactly EVH tone, but cool none the less. I don't think they were going for that tone.

Really? To me that clip is no better than a POD or a Vox Tonelab. I was just listening to some Rockstah clips so this Axe-Fx Marshall wanna be tone sounds very average. IMHO

To be fair Rockstah's tone is superior to a lot of real tube amp clips. However I agree with you on this Axe FX clip as well. I still hear things that sound digital or not all there to me. I know it has been proven time and time again that the ear can be tricked. And somebody could tell me tomorrow this is really an amp, however that does not change the fact I do not dig the tone in the clip.

I do dig tones like this however, and this is not even one of the popular tube amps and it has weird midz. Maybe 4 years ago this had a week or two of popularity? But come on it sounds 100x better than that clip.

Coming soon to the gear page...

"Axe FX II..this thing is a MONSTER!!!!"

wouldn't it be something like 'this thing is a Leviathan!! ' or 'an even bigger monster thing that's bigger than a Monster' :D

This, it's... it's like Cthulu in rack form!

I wasn't saying it was better than the real thing, I just said it sounded nice. I went the digital route and came back.

I'd love to hear POD or Tonelab clips that sound like that. Believe me, I'd enjoy that tremendously. We could have an Axe2 vs everything else thread and link the results to TGP digital forum. :D

Honestly the tone in that clip wouldn't be something I'm after. I actually agree tube amps to me sound the best but have to be cranked to get the goods. That's not always a good solution for some. The Axe and 11R are the two best solutions for those who don't want to or can't crank an amp to get the goods. They shit all over the PODs and Tonelabs by far.

I predict:
Standards $775-925
Ultras $1250-1400

I think this too, probably even lower for the Standard. It will become a dinosaur turd in a couple weeks and be like a Commodore 64 computer. Ultra's for around $1000-$1200. When people want their new toy and stay on the cutting edge, they will give in.

Steve

I agree. I will buy one when the prices drop. I think it would make a killer effects box. Every time I say that on a couple of other forums others always say you won't just use it for effects. I will eventually submit to the fact it can replace my tubes. I am not a kid that is influenced by the latest and greatest technology. I like what I like and that's it. I love my tubes and don't mind sharing the space with really strong technological advances in gear too.

The Ultras will settle in the $1500-$1600 range and the standards $1000-$1300 ( only 20-30% loss after over 4 years is amazing for most any gear )

\Who would 1300 for a standard? That's crazy talk
