Just a thought to everyone but as above does boutique gear lack identity? I play a musicman 25th anniversary and I love it to bits but it doesn't sound like a strat or a les paul but that doesn't matter to me, same with my amp, a Hughes and kettner Duotone.

I constantly read reviews that compares guitars to fenders or gibsons and amp that sound like Marshalls or fenders.

Does this ever bother anyone? Why does you think we constantly compare to them?

Because those amps, and Mesa included produced the tones we all grew up listening to.

I would ignore reviews like that. If I wanted a Strat or a Marshall, I'd just get a Strat or a Marshall.

Some boutique companies suffer from the lack of name-brand recognition, but many (small) boutique outfits would be unable to deal with an increase in customer traffic anyway. Other boutiques ride the wave of success, at least for a while...

+1

I cringe whenever I read forumites asking if "such and such an amp" can get "Marshall tones" or "Fender cleans".

Christ just buy a fucking Marshall or Fender. Done.

But for the record - I'm a Les Paul guy, which is a curse unto itself as you gotsta go through a slew of them to get the total winners. I am sure there are more consistently amazing guitars out there, but as I've written before, whenever I pick up a Lester, it feels like "home".

Peace out niggas.
