Do most DiMarzio humbuckers have a vocal type quality ?

I have an Axis and a Luke III right now and I notice something about them when I switch from guitar to guitar with a non DiMarzio pickup. The DiMarzio's have this vocal quality to them. The Luke III has the Transition bucker and the Axis has it's stock pickup which I've been told is similiar to a Tone Zone. If I sit there and play either Ernie Ball for a while I don't notice it, but only when I go from one of those to another guitar.

I haven't tried many of their models, but I've actually really liked the Air Zone/Air Norton set in my LPC - more so than any of the Duncan offerings. I think that "awww" sound might be exclusive to the Tone Zone or the Air Zone (I don't know how similar the Luke pickups are to those), because I didn't hear it in the Petrucci guitars I've played, or the X2N.

Kind of an OT question: which pickups were you using in your LP with your old IIC+ clips? Those were pretty much my ideal lead sound

They absolutely have a unique vocal quality to them... Some of Dimarzio's pickups have it more than others, but generally it's there with almost all of their pickups IMO.

The ToneZone is the one that stands out the most to me.. Extremely vocal sounding pickup. I just put my ToneZone back into the Charvel after trying several other pickups (Suhr Aldrich, Duncan JB, Duncan Holdsworth etc). Straight after putting the ToneZone back in, the vocal quality re-appeared!

I had a similar experience with the Tone Zone, it seemed to have an "oooouuuu" sound. The PAF pro had more of an "aaaahhhh" formant going on. I recently put a rebel yell bridge into my PRS CU24 with a 57/08 in the neck. The inbetween settings on the 5 way rotary switch had a strange formant emphasis that was a little funky. It was like having a slight envelope filter effect installed in the guitar.

I have noticed it with the PAF Pro, not as much with other pickups. Will have to try out the Tone Zone today and see if I notice anything

all pickups have a vocal like quality. if you mean like flavors of mids? and you dont want a lot of mids?

It's more pronounced on the Tone Zone and Transitions due to there unbalanced coils, or any pickup with unbalanced coils. The two coils have different resonant peaks resulting in two voices. These pickups also produce a ton of harmonics.

I have two guitars with the 36th ann PAF's and they also have a very vocal yet vintage quality...

PAF pro def had that.. I found that too. Never tried a tone zone. That pickup is interesting..seems like people either hate it or love it. There is never any middle of the ground opinions on it.

Same with the Duncan JB, which I hate with a passion. Probably explains why I like the Tone Zone.

I have the Transitions in my J Custom. They sound amazing! I Really like them.
