I came across this vid of the Carvin Legacy II. I've owned the XTC 101B and Uberschall. Played the Shiva. This amp sounds extremely Bognerish to me. Anyone else agree?

Edit: added these two videos

I couldn't tell cause he never left the neck pickup mud!

The Bogner cab he's playing through might be contributing to it.

It's been called a "poor man's Bogner" for a long time, especially the original Legacy. Steve Vai was using the XTC extensively while Carvin was designing his signature amp. :2thumbsup:

I wouldnt doubt it since the first Legacy series had XTC tonal qualities.

I played a Legacy and Shiva in the same room at the same time and I liked the Shiva better, but it was close. The Shiva didn't have as squishy a feel that the Legacy did from what I can remember.

That clip almost sounds like he pillows over the speakers.

This may seem like the case, but what it is, is true Bogner players know how to conjure the pillows away from the tone

I'm a Bogner guy, love 'em. There may be some tonal qualities to these Carvins that resemble the Bogner lineage, but ultimately, there's SO much more to tone and soundscape than a clip (ie: touch sensitivity, breathing room at 10, dynamics, thump-thud-knock-grind, etc).

Conversely, I've heard some masters conjure SICK tones out of shit combos. It is what it is...

I owned a Legacy. Great amp. The legacy II i tried sounded no different to me in a room, but it does have a Mercury Power tranny. Besides the master volume, I don't see why they designed it with that overdrive channel. They should have designed it like an Ecstasy. Save the funds and get the first if you can put up with the volume.

Also....6L6's in it sound way better to me, and I am a splawn guy.

ive played both legacys and the bogners. no way does the carvin have anywhere near the depth of a bogner. I dont see how anyone could put them in the same ballpark. I prefer the older legacy to the newer one. newer one is generic lead tone. Older one actually has a voice of its own.
