I'm looking for something particular, and I've seen it a couple places....I know what the base price is, and I know what the sale price is....some places the sale price is the same as the base price at another store...just wondering if you guys call up Sweetwater or The Music Zoo and offer em $4500 on a $5600 geet and see if they'll take it, or is that a no-no?

Thanks guys.

They really do not deal much at all on new gear. Used is different. They offer their price match, which is basically useless to begin with, as MAP pricing regulation keeps the internet advertised price level on most big or high end brands. What are you looking at? There are some who deal nicely off the path.

I ask for a better price 100% of the time and get it ~90% of the time. A "no-no????" The is no such thing in my book!

I always try and talk them down on price no matter what. If they get a little grumpy I always say "never hurts to try". That seems to ease the mood. Just Sayin.

With rare exception, my sales rep at Sweetwater will discount anything I buy. You just have to call and ask...

I send out a group email to about 30 stores stating - Whoever gives me the best price on the first reply is who I am buying from. If they send back a "match any price" I ignore them. They can also see all the other stores I sent the email. In general I found a lot of times a smaller shop just wants to move stock and will sell much below map. Other times the price comes back pretty much all the same.

I very rarely pay the advertised sale price. I always ask for a discount. I've had good luck dealing with Sweetwater and The Music Zoo several times.

I ALWAYS ask for a price discount. Almost always get something, even free merchandise maybe

Call TJ at Sweetwater extension 1224, tell him I sent you. He's a good dude and the ONLY one I deal with for New Gear. He will usually give you a little break off what they list for.

If they can't drop the price they can always, I mean always throw in some other stuff or discount shipping, you just have to ask. String manufacturer's will often give them boxes of strings to give away, picks, tuners, etc. You have to ask for it, they will not offer it to you. I just bought an Engl Ironball and was able to use the 4th of July 15% off promo and a free upgrade to overnight shipping. I also added a foot switch for a total cost of $1130!

I ALWAYS ASK, def does not hurt a thing, they may have another promotion going on or some other thing happening to help you out.

Nice...thanks guys. I was looking at the David Gilmour relic CS strat, and some places have it at $5600, some at 5k, but it's on eBay for much less, so was just wondering if I could call someone and ask for that price, or if that just wasn't done...I'll hit em up and see what's what.

And yeah......I was kind of worried about etiquette...I'd never hit up Brad or Jerry at Luxxtone and ask for a 2k discount, but I know they're giving us their best prices. I didn't know if it was the same for big chains, you know?

Definitely won't get a better price if you don't ask for it. That being said, I very rarely buy anything new.

I typically ask if they can do any better. Remember, sticker prices are sucker prices.

I remember this article.....I do this for a lot of stuff, especially oil changes. Just never thought of doing it for gear, and didn't know if the big chains would respond at all. If I could get 1/4 off the price of something new like that, then I'm on it. See what happens.

TMZ is willing to deal. So is GC- just gotta know the right sales people :)
