Do you guys negotiate with big chains/stores?

If what I am buying is over $100 at Guitar Center I always try for a discount. Even 5% would make me happy just to help with sales tax. I just ask them is this the best you can do. You have nothing to lose and they don't look at you like an ass. They like to move inventory.

No reason to pay more than you have to. I always ask for a discount and if I don't get the price I want I move on.

If what you want is at Guitar Center, you can wait until they put out a 20% off coupon and try to use that or if another online dealer sends you a coupon, use that at Guitar Center. I just got a 20% coupon from Music123 and called GC to see if I could use it there. I got a new Marshall JVM410JS for 20% off. First he said they couldn't do on Marshall items but he would give me 15% off instead. I said seriously you can't give me 5% more off? After being put on hold for 5 seconds, he came back and said fine. I did have to forward the coupon to them so be honest.

I also got my EVH III 50 watt for 20% off last Christmas when they had that coupon for Christmas day.

You can absolutely negotiate. I've negotiated several hundreds of dollars off a guitar through sweetwater, musician's friend and the music zoo. Phone in and see what happens...

I don't buy new very often, but when I do I try to get some money off.

Definitely won't get a better price if you don't ask for it. That being said, I very rarely buy anything new.

yeah i hardly ever ask, i guess i'm a mangina, as they say, they=idk??, but boy do i feel stupid now for not asking, derpa

me too, le'douche. i never ask.

but seriously, when was the last time either of us bought something NEW from a chain? your last two new amps were what again? and the last time i saw an oni in guitar center was........ :D :D shit, your power brick for pedals was a pink "pussy power" that had a proverbial "little man in the boat" lit up red to show it was on....cant find that at guitar center.

here is the jacked part for me. i am more willing to ask my guitar builder bro brent gutierrez for a price break than i am at guitar center. thats stupid. i should be paying his asking price plus a bro-fee.

i have always said that i have a price in mind for anything i want. it's all based on how bad i want it. if the price on the package seems reasonable, i pay it and move on. probably could have saved a bunch of money.....

Sweetwater will always knock something off the price, even from manufacturers that "don't allow that." I got a great deal on a Royer R-121 from them.

i rarely pay full price, i always for a discount.
im always buying gear i figure if i save 500 or 1000 a few times a year it helps pay for the next item i buy.

i used to have 4 or 5 guys at different guitar centers that would hook me up for dealer cost and show me exactly what the store pays and that was pretty cool for about 5 or 6 yrs but things have changed alot now and everybody i delt with is long gone. i hooked up a few guys on the boards over the years.

theres some good people at sweetwater that will try and work with you, ask for salesman Arand raby.

What's the harm in asking? Then again there are guys who buy cars and pay sticker price and feel lucky cause the dealer threw in floor mats. Use the price match policy to your advantage. I have went back an forth with a few stores and ended up with some great prices on gear.

lol F^&*. I just bought $1k worth of recording stuff and paid fullprice through sweetwater, I didnt even ask for a discount..

always talk em down......fuck ive called musician frend and they always say...please hold ill check it with my supervisor.......then i always get a better price
