I just got a Holy Grail reverb, trying to find the sweet spot, so far the "spring" setting real light sounds good, but not used to verb with my JMP's, do you use reverb with dirt???

I don't...I feel like it washes out the attack and overall response. I like my distorted sounds to react to my playing quickly...not necessarily that I need a crazy tight tone, but I don't like that 'washy' sound flowing over on the distorted sounds.

For specific parts in my original material I do. It all comes down to the emotion I'm trying to convey at that moment. A bit of compression and reverb can go a long way if used sparingly on distorted tracks. I've been experimenting with using chorus/flanger/reverb/compression on heavily distorted guitar parts to further differentiate the emotional content/theme the riff conveys, while still being "heavy". I love playing tech/melodic death metal, but I want to add more feeling to it, instead of the constant sonic assault (the name of the album if I ever get it finished  )

It works good in the effects loop. PLay those intro chords to Stone In Love and it's great having a touch of verb there.

+1 I cannot stand reverb or delay in front of an amp.

In front I have yet to hear one that sounds good... Although the Carbon Copy works well in front of an amp (at least for me), and it gives a good impression of a reverb (makes sense, since a reverb is actually a delay...)

my delay and reverb are pretty much always on. both are in the loop and the reverb which is a nano holy grail is set to hall setting and very subtle at around 8 o'clock. it just adds a bit of air and life i guess you could call it to the sound without making it sound very noticeable. IMO if you can really tell there's verb on under gain it's too much, just a subtle amount is what i like.

I used to use/abuse reverb a long time back. Havent used Reverb in 10 years.
It killed me at 1st when I stopped using it but have gotten used to it.

I`m not too fond of reverb and dirt, like others said, it gives a "washy" feeling. On certain lead parts it can sound cool, but rhythm playing and reverb doesn`t work for me. I usually play really heavy riff-based metal though.

The only time I'll use Reverb with high-gain is for lead tones, and it's barely even noticeable.
Just cracked open to create some thickness and space.
And only in the FX loop. Otherwise it gets washy.

I do not like reverb in front of an amp with distorted tones. I like it in the loop. I only use reverb when playing at bedroom levels. At loud volumes, I like a little ducking delay and reverb for cleans.

Never in front of the amp, but in the loop I use just a tad for beefy rhythms live. I use more (plus delay) for solos.

depends on the room for me. A small dead room I'll add a touch of verb, but other than that I really don't use it. I'm more of a delay kinda guy ;)

I use a little bit just to slighten moisten my tone a bit, make it more full. Well my reverb is an Accutronics Spring Reverb Tank that is built into my MarkIV. So I just leave it set to 2 for all my tone & gain levels.
