Does a full stack sound better than a half stack?

I have been thinking about getting a 4x12 cab with V30s in it to go with my Friedman Modded Marshall. Right now I have a Marshall 4x12 with the Celestion "75" speakers. Rather than do an "X" pattern, I thought about keeping my current cab and then running another one with V30s in it for a full stack.

Will I gain anything by having two cabs or is it just overkill?

Yeah, bigger is always better, more air to push.

All kidding aside there is nothing like 2 4x12 cabs stacked, personally I would match up both cabs to be the same.

Fullstacks sound way better than halfstacks.

Is it overkill? Yes. Is overkill good? Fuck yes.

And before someone says it... a fullstack is not any louder than a halfstack. And personally, I find it produces a fuller sound that is easier for me to hear, which in turn means I tend to play a fullstack quieter than I would using a halfstack blasting away at my knees.

if its worth doing, its worth overdoing, so yes full stacks to the death!

Another thing that sounds good IMO is two 4x12's side by side. I was running my Splawn w/ET-65's and my son's Line 6 w/Vintage 30's next to each other, and it made for a pretty sweet combination. Sounded better than stacking them, to me.

I always liked side by side better than dull stack. Never liked the cabinets sounds blasting my head off from the top 4x12 of a full stack.

Thanks everyone for the replies! Good point about having the two stacks side-by-side.

I like having the top cab aimed more or less straight at me (it's more straight at my shoulder, but whatever).

I find having that cab pointed right at me tends to force me to keep a grip on how much treble I use... which I feel others appreciate and I wish more guitarists would figure out...

In the 80's I ran three full stacks as much as I could.

Is one good. Sure. Is two better. Hell yes. Is three better. Do you really need to ask?

I like the sound of a full stack better even at home volumes. There is just something about a wall of sound. I also like them side by side much better than a stack.

2 cabs with different speakers sounds huge. Carting them isn't so much fun.

3 Stacks for the win, my neighbors LOVE me! :rawk:

Definitely!!
I split the cabs up though. Sorta stereo them and play in the middle....
super awesome and just a FULL sound!

you do get a fuller sound and a more room filling type of tone, but i prefer one cabinet - you get better high end quality from the amplifier in my experience. i own two cabinets and have played them both for years, but usually i leave one cabinet at home and the other at the band practice area.

now two cabinets in stereo would be kick ass to experience...thats my kind of ballgame right there
