Anyone using Marshall 1960 AV or BV cabs?

Interesting comments. I appreciate it. It's funny, I hear those speakers are brighter/more sizzle than regular v30s. Marshall website describes the cab as being warmer. Others say those speakers are warmer, or they are exactly the same as v30s.

Cab should be here tomorrow and I will report back on my thoughts compared to my Reissue Greenback loaded cabs. If I like the greenbacks better, I will probably swap them into this cab as I really want the classic look that matches the 800 (vanity/OCD).
They are the same as V30's, they just have a Marshall logo on them.

Not even close to true. Anyone that’s mic’d up multiple V30s and multiple Marshall celestion vintages will tell you this. They are not simply V30s with a Marshall logo. You are correct about the 16ohm point about the speakers, but since they are brighter with extended low end they sound more scooped, albeit they also do have a wide scoop around 700-1000hz according to Marshall reps as well.

What's that Strat? Looks awesome.
Thanks. It’s definitely a workhorse stage guitar. Warmoth roasted maple fatback neck, SS jumbo frets, XGP Strat body. SD 59/JB Trembucker pickups, Gotoh locking tuners.

Marshall 1960AV and BV cabs are pretty cool. I have a couple.
The speakers are great. They are effectively Vintage 30s. Others will disagree and say that the Marshall G12 Vintage is a different speaker but I've researched and tested so many speakers and my conclusion is that they are the same speaker apart from the basket and label. The perception that the Marshalls are brighter than regular (UK made) V30 likely comes from comparisons to Mesa 4x12s which use 8 Ohms speakers compared to the 16 Ohms speakers in Marshall cabs. 16 Ohms speakers tend to have lower SPL in the mids and the tendency for an extended high end.
The cabs build quality is ok. I'd recommend openening it up and tightening the speaker bolts and baffle screws. More often than not, I found them not fastened all the way.

Mesa T4416 16 ohm V30's sound different than Marshall's G12 Vintage 16 ohms. I prefer the Mesa, though the Marshall is great too, they are different speakers with different T numbers and different tone.

Don't overlook the 1960BHW cabs. They're loaded with G12H-30 55HZ
Not a fan of those speakers. The high end is hard/harsh to my ears, especially paired with an 800/2203. Very happy with the 1960AV so far.

I've had 1960 cabs loaded with 16 ohm V30s from Mesa, Marshall, and the "normal" Celestions. Small sample size, but the Marshall ones seemed have a bit more presence/bite/crunch whatever. I don't remember there being much difference from the normal and Mesa versions.

My Marshall G12 Vintage speakers are not bright. They are very balanced and even a little dark.

Must be because they are 36 years old.

i have a 1960BV from 2013 with the original speakers on the right and 2 16 Ohm V30 from late 80s/early 90s.
They sound so vastly different it's hard to imagine they are the same speaker.
I also have two Mesa v30 cabs from 2000 and 2004.
I can confirm the G12 vintage are way brighter and way less upper mid spike.
they are OK for everything up to low gain crunch. don't like them for high gain.

I agree with less upper mid. I also think they have more low end. I wouldn't say they are "way brighter" than a regular v30. But I do think they are a touch brighter than a v30.

I recently watched a rig rundown with Billy Howerdel from APC and said he loves the BV cabs and had just recently replaced his decades old touring BV cab with a new BV and that it sounds pretty much same. He said they sound huge and push a lot of air. I'd say he has a great ear for tone.

Have had some time with this cab at gigs as well as some A/B comparisons to other cabs I have at home. Really like these G12Vintage speakers paired with the 2203. Changed out the silly dual input/stereo jack setup with a single jack.

They have different T numbers because Mesa get theirs shipped to them with the back stickers off, so they can orient them right side up in the cab. That's the info I found on that. There have been tests done as well and they (Marshall vintage) have no distinct voicing difference from the regular V30.

Bullshit.
