Does any pedal get close to the Echoplex that EVH used?
I guess that would depend on the OP's definition of close. Having owned an EP3 echoplex it definitely has it own impact on the tone of the amp and how the echo's behaved. I also have to agree with Superunknown that a real echoplex is just something to be experienced and then you will see what everyone talks about............
my first kneejerk reaction
The Univox was only used for the last note of the Eruption solo to create the ocillation effect and to look cool inside the bombDidn’t EVH actuall use the Univox tape echo in the early days?? That’s what was in the bomb.
What about the BED pedal?my first kneejerk reaction
This is the pedal. I’ve had one for going on 9 years. It does the early VH thing to a “T”, in front of my Bogner Helios 100.
i’m not using it to drive the front end of my amps. i have pedals for that in front of my delays. What about the BED pedal?
Do you mean the boost or the actual echo part? If echo, The strymon volante is the best spendy option, but the TC alter ego is a great cheap one imo
Probably the best frugal suggestion right here.......For that VH slap-back in front of a distorted amp, the MXR Echoplex, as Pete Thorn demonstrates. I prefer any delays after gain, but for that one effect (slap back) I'd go w/ the MXR.
Boost.
