Does anyone know the differences in the Soldano Hot Rod 100+

I see most of them have Depth knobs but one I see doesn’t. It’s still called a Hot Rod 100+, is that an older version? How do they compare sound wise?

Note sure how they compare sound wise but the older ones didn't have the depth mod unless ordered that way I believe. I have one without and it rocks.

Plus means it's a channel switcher. Older ones didn't have the depth control. Opinions vary on the depth control - I added one to a hot rod 50+ and also to a SLO I had. I preferred the tone with it.

The "Hot Rod" is a single channel (like the Avenger but WITH effects loop), the "Hot Rod +" is the 2 channel, similar setup to the SLO. The Depth control is a factory option for any Soldano amp as far as I know.

Thanks guys. I wonder if the depth knob would matter when recording? I find those type of mods to have little use in the studio, can almost mucky things up. Maybe more of a live thing.

Hi James!
The depth knob is essentially a resonance mod.
Useful at room volumes for fattening up the tone, but as the power amp gets goin Louder, the effect is negligible, if not altogether gone.
I understand its optional on old ones, standard on new.
I also believe I was told when set to 0 there is no interaction in the circuit, like its not there at all. No
Coloration.

Yep! Ive got a Hot Rod 50+, and it's a distinctive voice, Marshall based for sure, but a distinctive upper mid, and power amp attitude. Cutting amps that play nicely with everyone!

Also note some hotrods were made with the depth mod non adjustable. These have no potentiometer and is always on.

I don't mean to derail the conversation but how does the clean on the HR+ to the SLO? I was enraptured with the gain on the HR but disappointed by the clean or at least from a quick change between channels.

Oh man I'm a dork, I just checked my track sheets and it wasn't the Soldano rhythm tracks I liked it was the Peavey 6505+.
