I was just thinking. With all the hype (still) with him, his gear, the brown sound still being discussed 38 years later and counting. Does he ever pop into these sites just to see what the masses are discussing about him?

I would bet that Wolfgang would be the Vanhalen looking at this kind of stuff.

Good chance that Wolf does . Ed , no freaking way but he probably from time to time gets the lowdown from his people then forgets about it a few minutes later

No way he keeps up with any of the chatter. In interviews it's sounded like he's aware people chase/idolize those tones and he's flattered by it, but he doesn't understand it either.

As mentioned in another thread, I'm surprised his people haven't produced an amp specifically capitalizing on that first album tone. Seems like a missed opportunity.

Totally agree!

BTW, awesome avatar. I lived in K-Town in the 80s and graduated from high school there. I have a few old "FCK" things from the 80s like a pillow and wall hanging, etc. :)

Don't be stupid. Drugs and alcohol have erased most all knowledge of how THAT tone was achieved... Even if he remembers why would he recreate it. If he gives everyone the tone they seek, they stop buying his shitty overpriced new gear.

He probably doesn't care really anymore after all of these years. The guy had no clue what he was doing but he knew the results he wanted. He experimented, blew shit up, fixed it and blew it up a different way, he learned this way and he still tinkering on the go forward asn not looking backwards at 1978

He'd probably be wondering why a bunch of grown ass men are still copying him after all these years instead of getting their own sound.

How cool! Lived there from 2007 to 2011 as a US citizen teaching on an Army base in Landstuhl. Rented a house just off Pariser Straße in K-Town. Great experience. Loved the people and the culture. Itching to go back someday. Raised on the big US sports leagues (NFL, NBA, MLB) and I still love them, but attending a match at Fritz-Walter was magical and I became hooked. No parallels in American sports to the way the world loves fußball. Less like sport and more like religion. :)

A while back, Michael Anthony and EVH got on one of the VH discussion boards for shits-and-giggles while on the road (would've either been the tour with Gary or the 2004 reunion with Sam) and they were shocked by the bickering and obsessiveness. There was a remark to the effect of: "Just enjoy the music, Folks." I'd fall off my chair if I heard he was lurking on the Metro board, etc. We're probably like Star Wars convention nerds to him.

This. He's in his own world.

I would think Matt Bruck is Ed's lifeline to places like this. He probably spends more time with Ed now than Wolfgang does.

If you do a little research, you'll discover the truth about Eddies reference to the "Brown Sound". Eddie was referring to his brother's (Alex) drum tone, not his guitar amp tone.

Wow, that's a blast from my past, I went to school at NMSU (lived in Las Cruces for about 5 years). Haven't been back in forever.
