Who else has love for boosted Mesa Rectifiers? Just so heavy, yet so articulate with that unique growl.

I love boosted Rectos. I have an old 2-channel Triple Recto that sounds like a sledgehammer. Love that amp. Only tube amp I still own.

Funny enough, I got a SD-1 today, but I haven't tried it yet on that amp. I will have to do that soon!

For me right now it's with the level around 1-2 o'clock, tone around 11-12 o'clock and drive barely on (maybe 1-3 on the dial of 10).

I preferred the 808 with my Triple, but the SD-1 was fun too. I tend to use that with the Marshall and found that the Triple + SD1 sounded so much like the Marshall + SD-1 that I didn't bother using that combination much.

But that's not a criticism, because I love how that combination sounds.

I used to have 4 SD-1's years ago. I modded them all different ways. It was my main OD for years. I usually liked it with level on max, tone about 11 oclock, and gain up to about 8 oclock. I got rid of them because I tried many different things over the years.

I have been on a cheap pedal buying spree the last few months, and have bought piles of Caline and Joyo pedals. I decided to pick up a cheap SD-1 and BD-2, and got them today. I missed that SD-1. Just such a great bright, aggressive alternative to the smoother OD808 types. I think the gritty upper mids really brings something to a Recto that it naturally misses.

With my Tremoverb I have an EMG Afterburner on my guitar, +20db with no change to tone. I used to have a Maxon boost pedal but I never fully liked how it changed the tone.

I have both a Tremoverb and an old two channel Triple, and I use an Xotic EP booster into a Lovepedal Eternity to boost it. The Eternity tightens it up without cutting as much low end as a tbescreamer would, and the EP add character and thickness, makes it sound mean as fuck.

Yeah a tremoverb and an sd-1 can be a magic brutal tone. Loaned a friend my zakk wylde od(mostly an sd-1), and we a/b'd it with an od808, and everyone in the room agreed the clipping of the Zw od agreed with the Mesa. The maxon sounded great too, but was smoother, and the already smooth dual rec, sounded just a little more aggressive with the zw. About to do the same test with my Vht d120 next week with an sd-1, 808, rat2, and an Mxr il diavolo boost.

I just love my Trem-o-verb over all the other Mesa Rectifiers I've owned and played. Not sure if it is due to the tremolo and reverb in the circuit or what but it just sounds so sweet in comparison.

I've talked to Mike B at Mesa about my '94 T-verb a few times in the last several years. He told me that since the T-verb was stopped Mesa has never been able to recreate it's tone in a Rectifier.

Not sure if he was just trying to please me as a T-verb owner or if he really meant that.

I have the Mesa STR 450 EL34's in my T-verb and they sound amazing. Glad I got them years and years ago. Last time I checked the prices were getting ridiculous.

This is exactly what I've been running into my Mark IV. The Marks are mean sounding but a bit thin compared to rectos so I beef it up with the EP and then hit it with an Eternity. The Eternity was my favorite boost when I had my recto as well.

This has been my experience also.

I've used a MXR Six Band EQ in front and it responses really well to different shapes. You can push the mid-range pretty extreme.

Last year when I was able to sit down with Randall Smith for a few hours he said it is one hell of a grungie amp. I asked if there is any modifications. He said no... and asked what I like to change. I did not really have anything particular.

The more pronounced midrange and smoother highs compared with the other Rectifiers just works for me when playing with a band. For my taste it's a idealized balance.

The Blues channel with it's mid-range hump reminds me of a hybrid of a Mesa Mark and Rectifier sometimes.

I've played on a number of Tremoverbs over the years and each one sounded a little different. Even when I used the same tubes in three Tremoverbs.

I recently got a TC Electronic Integrated preamplifier, it's pretty hard to find these days but i think it sounds great with Recto's.
