i have more than enough gear to be satisfied, yet here I am, gassing over a 5150 iii mini head and a 2x12 vert mesa cab...plus a parts list to redo my strat!

This forum is partially to blame!

It will never end. The only thing to combat it is to practice and jam.

It does not. I have several guitars that are nice enough to be "the one" yet the grass is always greener elsewhere.

This year I decided my most recent acquisition (Music Man Axis) was "the one" and started putting gear on consignment. I am using the $ for lessons instead of new gear.

Did for me, all I wanted was the amp to get me the tones I was searching for....yes I also have every effect that I could ever want....but the main thing for me was finding the amp/cab/guitar/pickup combo that worked for me and it did take me many years. I no longer gas for amps(thanks to D.F.) and effects...

Now guitars, that's a different story and I think as long as you've found "home base", gassing for new guitars is healthy within reason.....

All as long as you don't spend more time gassing than developing as a unique player, and creating new music.

unplug from forums and youtube for a while and focus on improving your chops. (Now I just need to take my own advice...)

It doesn't end. But get good cornerstones and try to shift the gas to pedals/accessories.

As far as guitars and amps it has finally ended for the time being for me. Ive still got a few small odds and ends for my home studio but Im PRACTICING again, and actually getting better lol!

Nope, it does not end

Also, for me at least, playing more does not decrease my desire to buy gear...

It doesn't end. If you have the time to play then just go play and stay off the forums. My problem is I don't have time to play much, so I have fun acquiring and trying out new stuff. I'm hoping that I'm going to be able to kill most of my GAS eventually with a Kemper and some "bang for your buck" guitars like MIJ Jacksons, 80's BC Rich's, Yamaha Pacificas etc, and a few cool pedals.

Mine ended with my Ken Lawrence and Kemper. Could reoccur at anytime I guess.

There were several boutique-ish high gain heads I wanted to aquire for my guitar room. Waiting on the "last" one now. I already got my dream amp 2 years ago, and don't play much else. Did I need another 4 heads? Nope. But I wanted them for my dream amp room.

What will I hunt next? A great bass rig to go with my awesome bass cabs I have had for 2 years. And a new shotgun. Toys make me happy.

So the answer is no....the acquisition of stuff is what makes me tolerate working. It's the capitalist way. Team america....fuck yeah.

I'd make a lousy Buddhist.

Mine ended in 2008 when the economy took a dump.

I looked around at all the stuff I had in cases and in storage and realized how silly it was for me to have all of this nonsense.

I've kept my main rig since 2008 and sold off nearly everything else.

Even when I lurk the classified sections I never get pangs. I think I'm done with it.

The 5150 III Stealth Head and matching cab have stopped me from chasing that sound in my head.
But I'm pretty sure that wont stop me from wanting to try other amps lol

Gas ends when a big enough solar flare hits, wipes out the electrical grid and the internet goes down.

Does it truly end? I wouldnt think so. Just goes into remission for a while. Then before you know it....
it rears its ugly head.

Luckily I don't buy amps too frequently, but I do get some GAS occasionally. I've averaged just under a guitar a year for the 29 years I've been playing, but it goes in spurts. I think the longest I've gone between guitar purchases is 4 years. I've used pedals in the past to curb the urges - it's far easier to absorb a $100 purchase every 6 months than to take a $1500 guitar hit.

It does not help me being that this place is 45 min away. Unlike Guitar Center, this place has everything you NEED.

Trust me, you really don't want to go there. Yeah you do!!!!!

Here, let me help.

The short answer, No. The long answer Hell NO!

Every thing I buy I tell myself "ok this will be the last one for awhile" then less than a week later I get something else.

I try to practice an hour a day, I completely rebooted my playing (played punk rock and read tab for wayyyy too long) and am now hammering scales and working on my lead playing. I seem to be stuck in position 1 but it's an amazing challenge!

My wife is partially to blame, she bought me my custom 24 as an engagement present, and fully supports my music habits!

I think that if you're always trying to sound like someone else it'll never end, but if you're doing your own thing and you finally figure out what works best for you it does stop.

Things finally clicked for me a few years ago and I havent had gas since (mostly selling off excess shit that I don't need anymore).
