Does the GnR do classic rock better than the SL?

I was just out playing the Mod 50 with the Bman and SL2x and I would say OH YA!!!Just a sweet module,so versatile!!!

I've never played the SL, but I use ChB of the T/D with gain about 3 o'clock or ChA or the GnR/SHM/SLX with gain about 2 o'clock for classic rock and they are killer sounds. GnR can definitely do a Hendrix-y sound on ChA.

Muudrock summed it up so well I think. The SL is a bit warmer/fuzzier than the SL2X. I love both for various things. You get that "thicker" tone with the SL, but the mid gain thing on channel A of the SL2X is a beautiful thing as well. If it were an either/or scenario, I'd go the SL2X for sure, but the SL is just a great module too and think everyone needs one of each.... Or if you are like Jason (UB).......you need about 3 or 4 of each module......!!

Seriously, let me add that the SL2X is a MUST HAVE for us Eggie lovers man.......period. I don't care what other modules you have, it's just that good/versatile.

Last night, I ran the M4/RT250 on SLX ch A and the Mod 50 on SL (both amps in parallel) and let me tell you, that is huge!! The mixture is the best classic Marshall sound I have heard. Both modules compliment each other so well. If you have the ability to run multiple modules at the same time, you owe it to yourself to try this combination.

You fellas who have not played the SL need to do yourselves a favor and try one! It has a gorgeous un-compressed, big as the grand canyon, warm Plexi-type tone that is to die for! It and the VX are definitely my favorite modules. I am going to send in my SL2 for the GnR mod as I am still not completely sold on a lead tone as of yet with the SL2, EG5 & Erect with the SL2 actually being my favorite for soloing.

Can't wait to try the GnR (aka SL2x) as I think from the descriptions here it is what I am after.

I think the SL2X does a better job at classic rock IMHO than the SL. The SL2X can cover more ground than the SL. ChA can get that semi-dirty/clean Hendrixy tone, do some AC/DC, and a great crunch tone. ChB brings the thunder.. Since the SL2X has more gain on tap...I think it can offer to do more. I liked the SL...but it was a bit too wooly for me to use as a module for this kinda stuff. But I personally prefer a tighter sound...which is why I was never entirely fond of the SL. I used the SL more as a lightly overdriven sound...with very little gain used. I never got over 10 oclock on the gain...or it got a bit too mushy / loose for me.

I'd like to comment that I've found out that the A channel is great for higher gain solo sounds. It must be the mids.

IMO, the SL excels at taking pedals, especially higher gain pedals. It is a totally different animal. I really like it with a Tube Driver or BB preamp for a fat wooly OD sound. The SL doesn't really sound like a super lead---more like a JMP or old 800. I agree with Eric that the SL2X covers more ground overall. Channel A gets more "plexi-like" on lower gain settings than the SL to my ears.

I have a modded Randall Plexi that I like a bit better than the Egnater SL and I think it does classic rock perfectly! Unreal, actually. Honestly, I like the Eggie SL just as well so I think they are insane for classic rock. I like the big bottom of the Plexi...I don't think you want that too tight. I also think the stock SL is great and will not touch it.
