Does this sound like a Craigslist Scam? I was answering a craiglist add for a guitar, that was a really good deal. I sent them an email asking how they wanted to arrange for the sale, they responded and the email has the name Robert. The email said to call me, and he gave me his phone number and said his name was Ben.

Called the number, no one answered and the mail box was full so I couldnt leave a message.

too paranoid, just meet him in a dark alley, don't tell anyone where you went, bring lots of cash and show him. so he knows you have the cash on you, maybe he doesn't have a computer and his friend sent you the email

I answered an ad like that, except the guys email was for Uncle Bob and his name was...Bob. I met him and walked away with a '90 Taylor 615 for less than the price of a new 200 series. Took like a whole 10min to run to the bank, grab the cash and haul ass to his apt before someone else grabbed it. He said I contacted him 5min after he posted the ad.....no shit....lol. If you are unsure and want what the guy has, meet him in a public place. If he won't and you feel like he is scamming you, go with your gut.

Might not be an issue. Could have been his buddy who posted it for him or something. Talk to him over the phone first and meet in a public place.

Finally got in touch with him on the phone. Talking to him for a few minutes it sounds legit. Going to meet him on Monday at a Mall half way between where we both live, so I can go to a bank after we meet and withdraw the money.

Hope its legit, probably $600-800 less what Ive seen the going rate on trade forums are for this guitar, and it looks great from the pics I've seen.

so what happened in the end? if in the last minute he says he can't make it because car broke or something I suggest cancelling the deal, there was a marine who got SHOT recently when going to do a transaction with someone who contacted him via craigslist: http://www.bradenton.com/2011/12/23/374 ... -scam.html, double check his email on http://emailbusters.org also

craigslist is a breeding ground for scammers.. the owners seem to give very little hell about what's going on with the rising scam activity on CL

If you are meeting in a public place and it seems legit I would do it. Most likely hes using his middlename for his email address or something. I have a client who does this and it confused the hell out of me at first. :D

Yeah....just USE common friggin sense. I've done tons of craigslist transactions and I always seem to find a good deal and have pretty good success selling my stuff. I've never once had a problem.

I'd say that the Musicial Instruments isn't a widely targeted category like jewelry or cars, which are a lot more expensive.

Absolutely...

On your situation I would be cautious. Do not bring cash with you but make the meeting place near your bank, check the item and if its good tell him to come to the bank with you; ie: lots of cameras, then pull the cash and do the exchange right there in the bank. Ive done this several times at Chase and never had an issue.
