ugh...
after getting this PRS SE and loving it wayyyyyyyyy more than I expected....I'm gassing for a "real" PRS

Yep. PRS guitars really fuckin' rock. I was turned off by the heel at first, but it doesn't bother me.

resist lol,

if it helps, the higher end PRS while unarguably the better guitars, aren't contoured like the SE , unless they do a model with a similar arm cut i'm not sold just yet =)

well the good news is, unlike MANY fellow forumites, a PRS is pretty much absolutely out of the question financially.
The only thing I could do is trade...and I've got a pretty big attachment to all my guitars right now.

but DAMN i would consider it haha

regarding the contours- mine has like NO contours on the front. just a small belly cut on the back. so that's not necessarily a factor. :)

I aquired all my PRSi except one via trade and I have 5.....got them all within 3 months......yes.......3 months........

really? jesus don't tell me that.... my beloved LP might be on the block hahaha

Try a PRS SC245! I'll be surprised if you don't fall in love. They're fantastic. I've had 4 USA Singlecuts and the SC245 has been my fave!

PRS are old school...junk.

Do that, and you'll never look back.

I tried to like Les Pauls for years. But from the moment I played my first PRS Singlecut I never wanted another Gibson.

I'm actually not very interested in the singlecut PRS guitars...but mainly the custom 22/24 style guitars. although, should a trade for a singlecut come along I might consider it.

damn you all for not talking me down.

I prefer the SC guitars over the Customs, picked up this tremonti recently, sweet sounding and playing guitar

The Custom 22s and 24s are different animals IMO. I used to own a pair of CU24s and they were sleek "hot rod" superstrats. My experience with the 22 fret PRS guitars is that they have fatter tones, but didn't feel as "shred-worthy". I actually had a McCarty for a week when they first came out ('98 or '99?). It was a toneful beast... but geez I just couldn't get along with that fat neck. One of the reasons that I've always wanted a Single-Cut, but never got one. I dunno... maybe I could get used to the wide-fat carve now. But anyways... my point was that the CU22 and CU24, though looking the same are different beasts in terms of tones.

BTW... if you like maple-necked superstrats, don't discount the CE22/24. I really dig those and may end-up with one of them at some point. There's an orange one on flea-bay that really gets my attention (even if it's a bit over-priced)...

yeah, I'm just basing my gas off the PRS SE Custom 22 that i have now with a wide fat neck

Dont do it! PRS guitars are awesome, but keep the LP and save up for one, just traded a CU24 on here. Keep an eye out for a McCarty with a rosewood neck, can usually find them used for less than 2000 and they are awesome guitars! Thats a great starting place!

McCarty's with a Tremonti in the bridge, and an RP in the neck... insane tones
I actually prefer the wide-fat neck, the necks on some others are a bit thinner, I've had both 22's and 24's (some really rare ones), but the tone of the McCarty's is huge and FAT. The 22's and 24's have a thinner tone. Not objectionably thinner, but thinner nonetheless.
Once I got the right pups in the McCarty's, I've never looked back. I hate the stock pups that come in them though, I spent about 2 years going through JB's, SD distortion, Lollar Imperial highwinds, an Aldrich set, EMG's, and Andersons. The Anderson H2+ or H3+ would be my second choice for the bridge. The PRS RP pup is one of the best sounding neck pups I've ever heard.
Had I not found the McCartys, I would have ended up with another Lester, but PRS's quality control is so much better than Gibsons at the moment.
My McCartys are not really purdy ones, the tops are nothing spectacular, but those things have gotten the crap played out of them, and have been fantastic over time. You could smash a windshield with those things, and they would stay in tune. I did change out the bridges on them to the PRS adjustable bridges, the intonation was spot-on after that.
In the end, its all personal preferance, but I think its the best sounding guitar they make on the regular production line ;)
I have not heard some of the new stuff, the nearfield pups are interesting, would be interested in hearing a set of those. What I have heard so far in vids looks very promising
