McCarty's with a Tremonti in the bridge, and an RP in the neck... insane tones
I actually prefer the wide-fat neck, the necks on some others are a bit thinner, I've had both 22's and 24's (some really rare ones), but the tone of the McCarty's is huge and FAT. The 22's and 24's have a thinner tone. Not objectionably thinner, but thinner nonetheless.
Once I got the right pups in the McCarty's, I've never looked back. I hate the stock pups that come in them though, I spent about 2 years going through JB's, SD distortion, Lollar Imperial highwinds, an Aldrich set, EMG's, and Andersons. The Anderson H2+ or H3+ would be my second choice for the bridge. The PRS RP pup is one of the best sounding neck pups I've ever heard.
Had I not found the McCartys, I would have ended up with another Lester, but PRS's quality control is so much better than Gibsons at the moment.
My McCartys are not really purdy ones, the tops are nothing spectacular, but those things have gotten the crap played out of them, and have been fantastic over time. You could smash a windshield with those things, and they would stay in tune. I did change out the bridges on them to the PRS adjustable bridges, the intonation was spot-on after that.
In the end, its all personal preferance, but I think its the best sounding guitar they make on the regular production line
I have not heard some of the new stuff, the nearfield pups are interesting, would be interested in hearing a set of those. What I have heard so far in vids looks very promising
