Went to see Dokken at a local casino. I’ve never seen them since the Lynch days and then after watching all the horrible YouTube vids of Don’s awful live performances I was somewhat apprehensive to even purchase a ticket. But man was I glad I did! Yeah Don didn’t hit those high notes and Mick Brown was rather annoying behind the kit... but Jon Levin OMG! What a freakin badass! That dude was tearing that shit up...and with relative ease at that. So glad I went and got to enjoy all those old songs that were a major part of my younger years!

I know, cool story bro :)

Very cool. If the band ever get's into legal trouble Levin was a top notch lawyer who represented many bands from what I remember.

Levin is awesome. I didn't know who he was until I saw this video and I'm ashamed I didn't.

His tone and playing at the rainbow was incredible.

And before DOKKEN he was in WARLOCK. He is a beast of a shredder. Perfect fit with DOKKEN!!

That's tight sounding as faaaak. Amazing tone and technique.

Awesome, going to see them in another couple of months down here.

Levin is a monster! I've seen the original lineup maybe a dozen times, the tour with Norum (in Dokken, as well as the solo tour), and with Reb... Levin definitely does the best channeling of Lynch in his prime. He was great in Warlock back in the day as well.

The current bassist is a local CT guy, who is a monster player as well.

Why was Mick annoying?

Yes! I didn't mention but he bass player was a beast too!!

Mick had a mic and was just talking too much. Kinda like he was the front man, almost stepping on Don's toes. Just weird and unnecessary.

Forgot to mention that Don did a little guitar solo that was very hard to listen to lol. The crowd cheered but I cringed

Bassist is Chris McCarvill.. he also played in House of Lords, and has a side project with Jimi Bell & BJ Zampa of HOL - Maxx Explosion (was in a local band X Factor X before that).
Understandable on Mick, and I'd expect that from Don...

Since this is rig-talk, what amps is he using in the video? He's getting a killer Lynch chewy growl out of them.... Marshall DSL's, it's hard to tell????

I met Jon (and Don briefly) a few years ago. Jon was very nice and didn't mind chatting about gear. Think he had ToneZones in his guitar at the time, said he liked those. And yeah he's a lawyer who still does practice a bit.

Don looked like he had no idea what was going on - it was after the show so he was probably pretty tired.

Pretty sure it was JCM 2000 DSLs when I saw them, in 2017.

I know levins personal amps are Splawns
But i think he uses a lot of backline stuff and usually gets the DSL likely

I also hate Mick's drumming. Flat out, I listen to those old Dokken albums and I think his drumming is boring and predictable and he always does that short moby dick Bonham fill totally out of context. The drums on those albums also sound terrible. I swear they were using an electric snare sample over the real signal. Anyway i don't know what it is, but they sound "cheesy" to me.

Thanks for listening :)

damn! I watched some of that video. You guys are right, he is smokin. Thanks for posting that.

Wow that's killer...tight as hell. He is a great player, and his tone sounds awesome.

What a cool gig....great guitar player by night, with Dokken and a media lawyer by day. Great gig if you can get it!

Seen Dokken with Lynch, Levin and Reb Beach.....all great.
