Great story. THIS is stuff of legend. Badass. I bet it looked like this too!

I know there are naysayers out there who do not like VH or EVH, but they cannot deny that VH changed rock music espeically guitar playing. I was a kid back then (about 10-11) when VH S/T came out and it rocked my world!!! Now I do not obsess over EVH or his tone, etc isnce it is not my thing, but VH was one of the greatest rock bands around and they are defintely in the Top 5 for sure as is EVH as a rock guitarist. Anyone who denys that is an idiot irregardless if they are a fan or not!!!

There is nothing wrong with obsessing over EVH tone. He is a living legend.

That's the first time I ever heard Don say anything nice about anyone.

He said it changed the way he looked at performing.

I know Don's had issues but i saw Dokken in 1982' and they totally rocked and were more hardcore than anything around here pretty much at the time. He wasnt scared in 82 when i saw them.

And who wouldn't be intimidated by VH in their prime ?

It was "Breaking the Chains" tour.

link: ^^^^ And Don Dokken Up from the Ashes is amazing and one of my all-time favorites. Think that came out in 1990'. I listen to the cassette regularly.

Saw Van Halen on "Diver Down", was one of the LOUDEST arena indoor shows to this day.

Both these bands and the men in them have earned their place in Rock and my respect.

I missed the DLR shows back in the 80's since they always sold out before I could get tickets!!!!   Now I got to see Dokken on the T&N and ULAK tours and I mangaed to get a ticket to see Randy on the Diary Tour!! I had to throw in the Randy thing!!!

Cool story...it must have been awesome to have been there on the ground floor of movement that went on to define the 80's hard rock scene.

Don is angry because he is a closet :gay: .. if he just came out he'd be much happier! (maybe just rumours but hey..would explain a lot!)

Like seeing Hendrix for the first time.

At least he was smart enough to realize what was going on too. A lot of guys would just be jealous and put VH down. That's why we've never heard of those guys.

I don't have an issue that people just love that old Eddie full time. Doesn't matter it was 35 years ago, it was powerful and some will embrace it forever. I dig it.

You can love it and move forward too.
