My Pro Mod didn't have the transformer at an angle to the bass that is for sure. You may be victim to another fed-ex amp dropping scenario. 3 times from splawn my stuff came back either dented, dinged or with the boxes severely thrashed.

The transformer being slightly tilted probably doesn't have anything to do with the issue you're experiencing (unless there's visible damage around it)

Preamp tubes don't glow much.

How do the power tubes look? Are they all glowing?

I know on the Quick Rod there's a dial inside that many people mistake for the bias pot that is called a hum pot and it is to adjust hum while at idle. It's set at final testing and should not need to be adjusted unless someone messed with it during the mod.

This is what I was gonna suggest also

Yep he's a nice guy. Although he might tell you to call FJA :)

It seems as if the mounting brackets are the thing that are at an angle. There doesn't look to be any damage to it though. It just looks unusal is all.

Power tubes all look good. I swapped the pre tubes around and it didn't make any difference. My final check will be to try a different speaker cable incase it's something simple like that. Once it arrives I can cross that off the list and then send it to a tech. I'll try and upload a simple iPhone vid of it and see if anyone can chime in on whether it's normal sounding or not.

Cheers again!

Yeah the transformer angle thing isn't damage. The holes were probably not aligned with the transformer bracket so the brackets were bent slightly to align it. No biggie, I've seen that before.

Well that doesn't sound like motor-boating. Sounds like a ground loop hum of some kind. My QR doesn't do that by the way.

+1

I would have to say the same basically. I would consult with FJA. Hopefully it is just a solder joint or something.

Here's a pic since you asked and I love showing my trannies   Are you a 311 fan? If so PM me.

Infact he told me to take his name off the amp because it isn't a Splawn anymore :)

That's pretty funny. I wonder if he took the Marshall logo off all the amps he modded when he was starting out.Since they arent Marshalls anymore

I bet if you called Marshall to get help with your Splawn modded 2203, you wouldn't get anywhere either... ;)

Cheers guys. I will email Jerry and see if he can shed some light.

Do you think it could be something simple as a damaged speaker cable? I don't have a spare here to try, and the one I do have looks ok at the solder joints. I might get another anyway and try that just incase.

It could be the speaker cable. It can also be your outlets or the wiring in your house. Could be a wire inside the amp too close to the input jack and is causing an issue. Lots of possibilities.

I would try different guitar cable and speaker cable. Could be a tube also. Try tapping your preamp tubes and see if they make noise.
