Doom guys, I'm looking for a Fuzz!

I've recently discovered that there's quite a few doom/stoner/sludge fans on here, which is great, it's a genre that hardly anyone I know enjoys listening to so I'm always nervous to bring it up.

Anyway, I run a 5150 II and I'd like to get some doom tones, my doom guitar is a Epi LP Goth which isn't ideal but does the trick until I can pick up a battered up LP Studio in natural mahogany or something.

As I haven't looked into it at all, I have no idea what good Fuzz pedals there are out there. Plus, a fuzz IMO is a good addition any rig because it can also be used for old rock and stuff like Andy Timmons where a bit of grit and smoothing out on leads sounds great.

If you can find one look for the Spaceman Rumblefuzz. It has tons of low end.

My second choice would be the Kaisser V2F which has some interesting filter options:

Other interesting pedals I'd like to check out are the oxxfuzz and the analogman astro tone.

Too much good fuzzes out there...

Can't go wrong with any of the fuzz face clones. I built mine for $30. Does the doom stuff well on the green channel of the 5150.

I don't consider Timmons when I think of fuzz tones. That said, the FZ2 is a fairly extreme fuzz. It's what Electric Wizard and the such use.

Definitely the musket fuzz. Could go with the twosome if you'd like some extra versatility. I also really love devi ever's hyperion. Good stuff.

I wouldn't mess with any of the boutique derivatives. With the possible exception of the Swollen Pickle, I think the originals got it right where fuzz is concerned. FZ-2 is also an amazing fuzz, but it's discontinued, rare, and pretty expensive. The FZ-2 is something different entirely because it's the only one out of the 3 (or 4) that I just mentioned that I would probably use in front of a clean sound rather than using it in front of a overdrive/distortion channel. I think you may be looking at the FZ-5.

I have a throwbak overdrive booster that is a better built variation of the old colorsound overdriver and it sounds killer and has killer options for different variations and settings not to mention they are built like tanks and nice customer service. I have even used mine with playing bass and got some killer tones. Definatly a keeper.

My Devi Ever Hyperion won the spot on my board. I use it on my bass and my guitar. It nails the Electric Wizard fuzz pretty good. I think Andy even played Funeralopolis in the demo he did for Pro Guitar Shop. Good Cheap Fuzz.

I'd also recommend the the Seymour Duncan Tweak Fuzz. It has a "tweak" knob that can take it from a higher shelved tone with a creamy classic fuzz, or a lower shelved almost scooped muff fuzz tone. The only beef I had was the volume wasn't high enough, but there is a really easy mod for that. If you do the mod right, you don't even have to buy anything. You take out one resistor, jump it, and use the one to replace the other. If anyone wants to know more about it, PM me and I can open mine up and tell you what resistors to mod. Really easy.

The Blackout Effectors stuff is great too. The guy that sold me the Hyperion did so because he bought a Twosome. Take that for what it's worth.

If you're going for boutique, I'd go Zvex hands down. You can do so much with a gated fuzz. His Fuzz Factory is an great pedal, and I use his Mastotron on my bass for a gated Velcro fuzz. Zvex fuzzes are amazing!
