Turns out, it's fucking delicious.

I've always played PRS and Les Pauls. Sure I've noodled around on other guitars in shops over the years, but I've never owned anything of note besides my LP Customs and a PRS Singlecut. I had a few Ibanez axes when I first started playing guitar. But quickly moved on from those. Lately I've wanted to try something different. Something totally opposite from my LPs. But I still wanted it to fit my style. So I started looking around.

Never heard of Mayones before last week. Someone on another forum recommended them. When I saw this thing, I knew. Instantly. That's the one! So being the moron I am, I didn't buy one... I bought two!

And you'll see why tomorrow when the second one arrives.

But first, here is my new (used) Mayones Duvell Elite. I took a gamble because you don't hear a lot about these. They are more popular in Europe I guess. But it arrived today and YES... it's AMAZING.I was putting it through the paces for a bit when one of my housemates came home. She doesn't listen to metal or hard rock or anything like that. Typical dance/pop shit. But when she walked in she said, "Holy shit. That is the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen. And I don't usually like the music you play... but that sounds fucking awesome. It's way richer sounding than your other guitars."

And she's right. This guitar is light and thin. There's nothing to it. But it sounds lightyears better than my Les Pauls. It's thicker. It's meatier. It's richer. It's got more character. The Les Pauls are a little more... stout and authoritative. But the Duvell is way more pleasant. And I'm digging the longer scale-length (25.4"). Everything plays tighter. There are a couple small blemishes here and there, but nothing to write home about. It sounds great, but I'll have to rethink how I EQ my amps, it needs a setup, and I might swap out the pickups (Distortion/Jazz I think?) for a JB in the bridge or BKP or maybe a Suhr Aldrich. The Distortion isn't my favorite pickup.

But guys, I am so excited about these guitars. It's like they were made for me. The neck feels perfect. The body fits me, the frets are the perfect size, and the thing looks evil as sin. Ok enough talk, here's some shots. The second one arrives tomorrow... :D

That's just damned gorgeous! I mean DAMNED gorgeous! I love it. I wouldn't have gone the hardtail route on it myself, but I can see that pumping out some down-tuned DJENT and shred. Congratulations!

I hate trems lol :)

I have gassed for one that looks just like yours for long now. This is a bad week for gas inducing threads like yours. Man, just when I was getting over it you post this frickin awesome looking Mayo. Love that buckeye

Congrats!
The Duvell is a great axe. I too didn't pay much attention to these guitars.
However, I checked them out at NAMM this year. VERY NICE GUITARS!
I particularly liked the the Duvell.

Beautiful guitar! Those pups look like black winters. If they are and you a want change them I have a JB/'59 I'll trade ya.

Congrats!! I tried a Regius 7 once at Axe Palace and thought it was one of the best guitars I've ever played. The other Mayones's I tried (Setius and Duvells) were also really nice but the Regius suited me best maybe since I tend to prefer heavier guitars. It doesn't really make sense to me that guitars like Charvel, Jackson, ESP, and Suhrs get talked about on here way more than brands like Mayones. I myself currently own a Suhr Modern and it's a very nice guitar but the Mayones's that I've tried are in another league IMO.

Badass man. Can't wait to see the next one. Thanks for the review and HNGD!

Awesome grab. They look amazing but I've never gotten a chance to play one. They are hard to come by. Congrats

That's hot shit for sure.

I nominate a Pegasus & Sentient set. Do a 50's wiring.

Congrats, looks cool.

Best tone ever, think I'll change the pickups. :D

The guy I bought it from says they're Distortion/Jazz. I don't think Duvells ever came with Black Winters.

Well the one coming tomorrow has the Nazgul/Sentient. So I'll see how those go :)

How do you do '50s wiring with only a volume pot? I was thinking of adding a tone pot but I don't know how I feel about drilling a hole in this thing...

Haha yeah well you get what I'm sayin'. You can tell the guitar sounds good, plays well, etc. But the Distortion is just that... it hits the front of my amps too hard. I'd rather let the preamp do the work. It's a subtle thing, know what I mean?

I swear to you if you post up tomorrow that you bought that John Browne sig up on reverb before I could pull my 401k out I'm going to find you and kick you in the nuts after congrats of course. I had to fucking order it and wait till September after the that. I have the weirdest feeling that's what you're talking about because most of these look the same other then that one.

Haha! Nah man, you're safe

John Browne is a hell of a player though. Never really heard of him but I just watched a few vids of him ripping it on a Duvell. Pretty sick shit:

Jaw dropping top on that one. Glad you love it,nothing better than a beautiful guitar that totally rocks your would.

That's a nice looking guitar. Cant wait to see to other one.
