Doug Pinnick is 75 years young and still needs a sandwich.......Kings X 2025 content

One of my fav bands, ever. Not everyone's cup o tea, but 3pc with 3 part harmonies? Yep.

First time I saw them was in 89, at a smaller club in St Paul. I was just out of the Army and a drummer I was jamming with made me go. They did Gretchen front to back. Amazing.
Saw them a few more times in the 90s. Always killer. Ty is underrated as hell.

Have you guys heard Pinnick's band with George Lynch and Ray Luzier? This is my favourite song:

Great live band
Way back, I interviewed Ty when he released his solo CD. Cool dude
Was also supposed to interview dUg, but he never picked up or called back
They’ve always killed it when I saw them live (4 or 5x)

Dug is a good dude, too.

At NAMM 2011 my ex and I were getting drinks before the Dean NAMM Jam, I turn around and he’s standing right behind me waiting to order so I got him a couple Long Islands. I figured we’d part ways after a quick chat but he watched the whole show standing next to me, while I got increasingly shitfaced and screamed along to whatever Hellyeah tunes I recognized (not a big fan….at all, but it was a free show and MSG was coming after).

The next night I saw him at the Hilton while I was outside smoking, he walked up and asked how I was feeling and I just held up my cup to show him it was a hair of the dog kinda day, he held his up and said “Me too, brother! Can you talk after all that screaming last night?” and I squeaked out a terrible sounding “Have you gotten any cigarettes?” to show him I was in rough shape.

Man, look at that double fuckin’ chin…..that was pure booze fat back then.

I noticed that the Orange Crush Pro 120 and Super Crush 120 have a class A/B Power section and not something Class D. The preamp section is FET but they don't say what the output sections is????

I wonder if that's why it sounds so good???????

Are there still modern mosfets that work in large power sections like the old ones Randall and Marshall used in the 80's and 90's???

Orange Super Crush 100 Features:

  • Footswitchable for convenient onstage channel controlling
  • 100W Class AB power amp and 2-channel JFET preamp for heavy-hitting power and presence

  • 3-band EQ with 4 stages of gain to develop as many finely tuned clean tones and as much gritty overdrive as you desire
  • CabSim speaker emulation packs in the sound of a 2 x 12-in. cabinet
  • Cab Back selector allows for even more customization of your simulated cabinet sound

My college age son and I have gotten to see them twice in the past two years. Both times we were right up front. Great shows and great people. Dug's bass was HUGE sounding and where we were standing in front of his amps when he hit a low note it would rattle you head to toe. I am fully convinced that Ty could play through a block of cheese and still sound good. His entire rig when we saw them was a MiM Fender Strat into the Orange Crush head and a Line 6 HX effects in four cable method for all effects. He sounded amazing as always.

Last I talked with Ty he preferred the feel of crush. Not the super crush.
My favorite band hands down and guys I love chatting with about everything!

I played both side by side a year or so back at a GC through the same cab. I think I feel the same. The super seemed a little more gained up and compressed sounding and it had more of a hair trigger when working the volume knob on the guitar. I was using it much how Ty appeared to, just the drive channel with the knobs around noon and the guitar volume to clean it up. I should have bought the crush head. It was used for about $200 and sounded great.

Saw them playing at a club years ago. One of the best gigs I've ever been to. They leveled the place and hung out with people in the parking lot before and after the show. Good dudes.
