Us GAS heads - we just acquire way too much crap. I recently sold my condo I was in for 15 yrs, and you don't realize how much crap you accumulate.
I went from playing out regularly in 2-3 bands, to.. nada. I'm now a home hobbyist at best (though I am participating in a 20yr reunion one-off later this year).

Anyway - I have some really cool gear that I won't want to part with, and my new place I'll have a small home studio. I've sold all my modded heads and a lot of bigger gear a while back (regret selling the Langner pre, Cameron mod, Suhr mod, and my Egnater seminar built head).

Trying to pare down amps & cabs (may at some point down the line take a leap to Kemper or AxeFX), as well as guitars.
I see myself keeping at least an amp or and cab or around for when I want to move some air, & want some variety. Just looking for a sanity check & input as I have SO much going on right now with moves, work, side gig & little league.

Amps that are staying: ENGL Ironball, EVH 5153 50 watt. Down the line, I intend to get a Bottle rocket as well, and one or both of these may go at that point.
Laney Ironheart. May stay, but doesn't do anything the 2 other heads can't. Great little amp though:
May go: ENGL Artist 100, Peavey 5150.

Cabs likely staying: ENGL 1x12 Pro, CAE 2x12, Mesa 2x12.
Cabs likely going: Peavey 5150, ENGL 4x12 Pro, and EVH 5153 4x12.
SHOULD I keep a 4x12? Not sure I can justify need, but sometime you just want volume... if so, I think it would be the ENGL (as I can replace the other 2 easily).

I'll likely list a bunch of guitars - ESP, Hamer, & Fenders.
Don't think any of my mutts, GMW's, the Jackson or a couple of ESP's are going anywhere. There is just something special about these as far as feel, playability, etc.

Thoughts? Am I insane? does it make sense to liquidate what is way overkill?

thanks in advance guys...

Tough call. I personally only keep what I use but have regretted letting some things go.

You never know when you'll get that itch again. If you don't need the money, keep it all :)

My Splawn and V Boutique 2x12's are HUGE sounding. I do not regret getting rid of all but one 4x12. Good call on the Bottle Rocket as well!

Without knowing your musical style, I would actually keep the ENGL Artist over the Ironball. Always keep one 4 x 12 just for the trouser flapping. I love the gain on the EVH--where are you getting your clean tones? (Or is that a consideration?)

Agreed. The Artist was my favorite of the Engl's. I found it to be the most open and organic one with a great upper mid growl that was only matched and slightly beaten by my Cameron Aldrich modded jmp. It was a keeper for a long time for me because of it's upper mid roar. I'd also keep the peavey 5150 over the evh 5150 iii personally

I agree.

Actually he should reverse his keeps and getting rid of lists for amps cabs and guitars and it would be perfect.

Seriously I would rather have one great sounding 4x12 than a bunch of 2x12s and 1x12s.

need to do the same thing. Tough decisions.

Def keep one 4x12. You could rent a space for a day, haul your shit there and blast away - deciding to keep only what sounds the best.

Yeah, where are you getting clean tones?

Holy shit dude, are you me? I've been in my house 20 years, a bachelor for 15 of those years. Numerous bands, way too much money to spend on gear (amps, cabs, pa's, keys, guitars, speakers, cables, pedals, did I say cables?). My wife and I put an offer on a house that was accepted last week, our realtor said we needed to have the house decluttered in 2 weeks. I laughed, a lot. We pulled our offer, but spent six hours Sat and six Sun, plus three hours a night Thurs, Fri and Mon this week cleaning, boxing and organizing just the basement (my music room). So much shit. I know that what I have has value, certainly the big ticket stuff, but the cables and eqs and mic stands and speaker stands, I don't have time to sort this stuff out, let alone list and box it, mail it. Ugh.

I'm with you though, I need to sell two heads at least, certainly my 4x12's and just buy a pair of 2x12s and be done with it. As to guitars, I have a few nice guitars, but most are 80's/90's shredders which were/are great player guitars, but resale isn't great. I have two young sons that might play some day, do I lug this stuff around or just let it go and get them something when they are older.

Thanks for the input, guys. was hoping to list & move some stuff before I move.. but may have to wait until I'm settled at the new place.
Cleans?!? What are these cleans you speak of? Actually - good point.. though I'm fairly happy with the 5153.

And - see how sick this is..? Shredhead7 says he needs to sell 2 heads, and I look into his sig and pick out the surreal and modded Marshall! bwahahahaha. Aye aye aye.... I need help.

The best thing you mentioned there is the Engl Artist. That's one hell of an amp. It sounds so damned good. If I were you, I'd focus on getting just that right now.

Haha, I feel you man, I've been eyeing a Bogner and a JP2. It's a disease man.

-keep your best built 4x12-
Agreed! Even if you aren't gigging, there's something about the full sound you get from a 4x12 that can't be replicated by ANY 2x12, I don't care how awesome the 2x12 is.......
