I don't know if Mesa's fallen out of favor around here, but the Mark V can do all those things. Some of them particularly well.

Agree with this +1
But for more Marshally tones, PT-100 - and has best clean channel of any channel switcher I've ever played.

CH2 on the VH4 is my favorite just because of its versatility. It's my favorite lead channel on the amp, and can do a kickass hard rock rhythm as well with a touch of a boost.

Agreed. Ch. 2 is my fave as well. Rolling off the volume and a light touch take it almost completely clean, but digging in it gets killer, thick hard rock crunch. Only trouble is that if I'm having a lazy day, it makes me sound terrible because the attack and gain end up all over the place with sloppy/inconsistent picking.

I'd have to say an Egnater Mod50 with either a VX (vox module, incredibly versatile) or a Bman (chimey clean if you want it and JTM style crunch) and an SL2x or EG5, depending on how tight you want your rhythm/lead tone to be.

No one has said a bogner xtc yet? Seriously? One of the most toneful and organic amps in the world, and a staple in modern channel switchers in my opinion... That amp is right up your alley, and what I would be shooting for...

also try the Bogner 20th Shiva, it does everything you want well.

if fractal teamed up with apogee and italo to redesign the axe-fx for state of the art no compromise conversion and fx processing power, and then sent out the proto to dave friedman, bruce egnater, mark sampson, victor mason, john suhr, jim kelley, al-howie dumble, peter diezel, reinhold bogner, steve fryette, bill krinard, mike soldano, greg germino, and alan phillips to each have a part in a hybrid tube pre/power profiling fractal head, and then had eric johnson and mike landau fine tune all the factory presets for tone and playability,

i'd be good with that.

I'd think something like that would only be available to the likes of Warren Buffet and Bill Gates, with that list of greats getting their hands on it. Would be something spectacular though.

Version 8.0 has all that, except EJ and Landau didn't tweak the 7 string and Scorpions presets, and I heard they either couldn't find the "italo" guy or were scared to talk to him............Dumble switch bypasses the Crystal Lattice, making Tubes work even harder.

a friend of mine also suggested the Carvin V3M. anybody have any experience with those?
