Experimenting with mic placement. This one is three mics. Two fiddysevens in fredman clip, one e906 to help beef up the low just a touch, run through my little outboard mixer, then into the interface.

Didn't even mix this fugger. Seriously. Used the default kit in Addictive Drums 2 metal pack, recorded the two guitar takes, recorded the bass take and tweaked the bass just a touch. Master got an overall EQ with less than a DB tweak in any given band, minor compression at 2:1 and that's it. Didn't seem to need anything more than that.

I know I'll work more on it, but for a half hour this early in the morning? I'll take it.

That's a pretty legit sounding 80's thrash/death metal tone. Sounds good man. I have been curious about the e906. What did it add other than low end that the 57's didn't have?

The 906 is a very flat/even response mic. Very round mids, lows are punchy, highs aren't crispy/fried like a 57 can be. That's with the switch in the center position. With the switch in the presence lift position it can grab a bit more bite in the top, but never really achieves that upper mid spike the 57s have. Switch in the presence down position gets a little flubby for guitar, but sounds nice on bass or vocals sometimes.

It's a nice mic to have on hand when the usual suspects aren't quite doing it for you.
