I'll be in the market for an amp pretty soon and have pretty much made up my mind on going with an Orange. I was looking at the OR100, but noticed it wasn't available anymore so I've been looking into the Rockerverb MKIII. Recently though I was watching a few videos with the Dual Dark and am wondering if that might be more what I need. I'm looking for something somewhat versatile but mostly I want something that's going to get me tones from bands like Sleep and High On Fire. I know these amps aren't as tight as some of the more modern offerings from Mesa or Peavey, but I'd like to be able to play some other stuff as well (think old school Metallica) on one of these amps if possible as well. Does anyone have any experience with either or these or both?

I saw High on Fire at Gigantour years ago now, and Matt was using an Orange. I don't recall which one...prolly an OR100. He had something else under it and turned on, but I can't recall what it was.

The Rockerverb is gonna need some volume to get the tone you're looking for. I'm not super familiar with the Dual Dark. The Rockerverb sounds good at lower volumes, but it really kicks when you open it up.

I own a Rockerverb 50 MKIII, I prefer the 50 over the 100 watter. I think it will have no problem getting High on Fire tones. The amp has a punchy low end and I find low end pretty tight. If not tight enough put a maxon OD808 in front set for clean boost. Killer amp, great cleans and footswitchable attenuator.

Yeah, Pike uses the SLO but recently he's also been using two Dual Darks in conjunction with a couple of Thunderverbs. If I may ask...what made you enjoy the 50 watt over the 100 watt? As far as tones go, I was just curious if anyone had used the Dual Dark or not and how it stacked up tone-wise to the Rockerverb. Most likely, I'm probably going to end up with that one, but I was trying to find out how much a difference between the two there were.

None of his recordings were Orange. He uses Orange for tours because they are easier to rent.

Not to mention that he often has an Soldano GTO tube pedal on the floor when using other amps...

-I love the ROCKERVERB Mk III's, I've wanted to try a dual dark, but I've never seen one, also very mixed reviews.

-if it were possible to remove the "fuzz" I'd have a bunch of ORANGE's

I have MkII Rockerverb and with a Fortin Grind pedal up front on the dirt channel gain set about 1:00 mids scooped it is pretty damn impressive. With no boost it is a too loose for drop tuned metal. A GE-7 in the loop also makes it wicked tight.

Cool.

How do you like the Fortin? I've seen those around. I was also thinking about picking up something from Dunwich Amplification. That guy makes some really awesome pedals.
