Yeah, but the numbers only account for a small fraction of the cities that used to have to report crime data to them ( the FBI ). See, they got smart. Lower the crime rate by not requiring police departments to report crime data to the FBI. And they got caught a few years ago. Remember when all the democrats were saying crime was down ? Yeah, that was about 150% the opposite of reality. And NBC, CBS, ABC and CNN KNEW it was bullshit and spouted it as fact anyway.

Also, some people don't bother even reporting crime because there is no recourse.
 
DC aside. Crime is not down. People are taxed to death, poisioned by big food and big pharma. Overworked. Everybody and their brother is on an SSRI and deprived of sleep due to stress. Let's not bullshit ourselves. Most people are one synapse away from going

I remember a news pic at least 2 decades ago, showing an "encampment" and slums in the foreground and the capital bldg in the background and the stark difference, being so close in proximity. Someone finally decided the squalor had crept close enough...good for him.
