Wondering specifically for gigging. Will a sound man have a balanced out cable available at gigs as easily as an XLR connection?
Dumb question but why do some amps have an XLR out and others have 1/4 balanced out?

I bought a 1/4 to xlr cable for my out to go to an interface or whatever, and it worked perfectly.

Balanced Stereo / TRS outputs and XLR should technically be the same thing. Two different sizes of the same thing. You can buy adapters to go back and forth pretty cheap.

The 1/4" is smaller and costs less, so I can see the preference for installing one, all else being equal.
My inclination is that I'd put the 1/4" in something that can be run direct but it's not the primary expectation of it, but I'd tend to put an XLR in anything I expect to primarily be used direct-to-board.....but maybe there's more to it than that.
