Duncan Custom Custom or..?

I can't speak for the other brands since I haven't tried them. For an alder guitar, I'd go either with a JB or Duncan Distortion.

The Holdsworth is similar to a JB if I remember correctly. But I think it has a sweeter top-end.

I had the CC in a dark guitar years back and it kind of ruined it for me. I think that's a pickup that belongs in a VERY bright guitar.

The Duncan Custom is terrific also. Feel-wise it reminds me of a DD, but it's smoother and thicker sounding. Great pickup but it might be too thick in an alder guitar. But that's just my hypothesis, I got no experience to back that up...

I use the Duncan Custom also, what a great pickup that is, tight yet smooth and fat at the same time.

It does have a fair bit of presence, so if the original poster wants it in an Alder/Maple setup, it might be a little much. It rocks in my ibanez, it replaced a JB and Im not going back.

My vote would be with the Duncan Custom.

I have two GMW Jakes which are alder guitars.

One with JB and one with the DC and the DC sounds so much better to me, alot thicker.

Whats your opinion about this one?

I need a humbucker for my Strat (Alder body, maple neck) and im considering some options:

Duncan Holdsworth: Seems like a killer pickup, but hard to find used and really expensive new. Im not sure about what to do.

Duncan JB or Custom Custom: Easy to find, good price. Had the JB on a Les Paul and liked it. Never tried the other one.

Suhr DSH+ or Aldrich: The DSH+ seems like a Holdsworth and i have read awesome stuff about the Aldrich.

Atm i have a set of SCN single coils on the CS Strat. I really like middle and neck, but dont really like the bridge (Especially for Hard Rock, it kinda sucks).

The Duncan Custom Custom is, to my ear, a pretty dark pickup. In fact, that's why I got it. My Hamer Mirage has a flamed koa top (on a mahogany body) & tends to be bright; previous bridge 'buckers I've had in there have leaned a bit towards harshness. I wanted to tame that, without losing mids or output, and the CC fit that bill *perfectly*.

My other Hamer, a Studio, has a traditional maple top, and it's got a JB in the bridge. Works *great* in that guitar. In the Studio, I think the CC would be too muddy, and I think the JB in the Mirage (which is 25.5" scale length & has a Strat style trem) would be to bright/thin.

Don't know if that helps, but that's my experience with two of the pickups listed in my guitars.
