Duncan Distortion for VH1 tone ?

Do you think the Duncan Distortion could be a good option for VH first album tone ?
To be honest, I have never read anyone evoking this option before.
But a powerful, bright pickup, with high output to push a plexi, it seems like something coherent, no ?

both old school and will fit the era fine.

I’ve been going down the rabbit hole for a few days on this trying to select a new pickup. From what I gather a bright guitar needs and alnico 2 around 9k or so. A dark guitar could do well with an alnico 5 or even a hotter ceramic if voiced right.

Of the top contenders for VH2 which pup should work best for a pretty neutral SG type ? I’m thinking an alnico 5 type might be better than an A2 but it’s probably splitting hairs. I like that sound as a jump off point but also want a bouncy and responsive pickup.

I agree the Distortion is too tight for VH. Not enough bounce.

The Pariah Pasadena white is superb for classic VH 1 tone . It was in the top two picks after Pete Thorn did that really extensive VH I pickup comparison .

If you want VH I tones out of a Duncan a simple 59 works perfectly. So will one of the newer 78 models.it

My favorites are the Pariah 70s Destruction (which sounds like an older Dimarzio SD), the Pariah Black and a Duncan 59

I agree the 59 does a great job. I’ve got a WCR darkburst in a Les Paul that’s killer too. I bet the darkburst would hold its own in the VH shootout stuff especially if the guitar was on the bright side.

Jim's video on the DiMarzio SD vs. Super 70 sold me on the Super 70 for the pickup in the Destroyer.

I had Jeff @ HighOrder wind me a clone of a Super 70 (8.1KΩ, Alnico 8 mag ), and I think that's the correct pickup.
